Burton announced the news on Twitter and expressed his gratitude for giving him the opportunity to be a part of the role playing video game series. “There’s been some talk out there that I’m no longer voicing Cloud Strife and that is correct,” Burton said. “Man! Seventeen years! Seventeen years! What a run it’s been, but first I just gotta say how grateful I am to even have had the opportunity to voice such a legendary character.”
He explained that being a part of this project has been a life-changing experience. He added that he was thrilled to have been given a chance to work with other talented voice over actors. He thanked his fans and said that they’ve all been amazing. Apart from that, he said, “Over the 17 years I’ve done it, you’ve shown nothing but love and support…I can’t tell you how much that means to me.”
It has been revealed as well that Burton’s departure isn’t the only change that is happening on this remake. The alterations aim to freshen up the series as it moves forward. For Burton, he doesn’t harbor any ill feelings as he exits the series. He understands that change eventually happens and all he can do is roll with them.
“Things happen. Doors close. Other doors open. This is a door opening for a new cast of final fantasy. I’m sure they’re gonna be incredible. I know Cody Christian’s gonna give it everything he’s got, so I wish him the best.”
Meanwhile, Christian took the time to thank Burton for making the character to what it is now. He vowed to do his best so as not to let Burton down. The latter immediately replied and said, “You already sound great and I have no doubt you will do an amazing job.”

yes i am a fan of Steve Burton, and Sonny as well the entire staff just to say keep up the great job much much fun.
Absolutely!!!!! From the moment I saw his character on GH, I have totally enjoyed his role as Jason! I was taking a break, after the wonderful story of Luke and Laura was waning…. when I started watching again, there he was, Jason Morgan, the all around good, bad guy…. and I have LOVED Jason and Elizabeth from the moment I saw them together. The chemistry, the caring, the true friendship and the love that was always there…just beneath the surface… the love that always brought them to each other, through every hurt, trouble and happiness, to help and share and rejoice or grief together…… ahhhhh…. the greatest love story never told…. Liason Forever Fan!!!!!
