Donna Mills Started Her Soap Opera Career In The CBS 1960s Soap “Love Is A Many Splendored Thing”
Donna started her soap opera career as one of two sisters, Laura Donnelly, in the CBS 1960s soap, “Love Is A Many Splendored Thing” and ironically when she aired, her character’s sister, Iris Donnelly, was played by Leslie Charleson, General Hospital’s Monica Quartermaine!
However, in the whole time Donna played Madeline Reeves on General Hospital, she and Leslie didn’t have even one scene together! Donna Mills won Outstanding Special Guest Performer in a Drama Series for her performance in General Hospital, in a three-way tie with Fred Willard and Ray Wise, at the 42nd Daytime Emmy Awards.
She then went on to primetime fame in the spin-off from the popular tv show “Dallas”, “Knots Landing” where she played Abby Cunningham for nine years. Unapologetically going after what she wanted, Mills’s character engaged in affairs with two of the husbands on the Knots Landing cul-de-sac, but like most vixens on primetime soaps, she was only out for money, not love! She grew tired of the show, and of playing Abby Cunningham, and left Knots Landing in 1989, saying she needed a break. A few years later she re-entered acting, and appeared in several made-for-television movies and then returned to soap operas with her portrayal of Madeline Reeves on General Hospital.
