The role of General Hospital’s Carly was originally played by Sarah Brown. Carly first appeared on April 5, 1996. Carly came to Port Charles to find her birth mother, Bobbie. Carly was adopted as an infant and blamed her mother for the unhappy life she had lived. Carly was born offscreen on November 5, 1973. Carly managed to break up Bobbie’s marriage to Tony Jones (ex-Brad Maule) after sleeping with him for revenge. Carly and Tony get an apartment together.

Carly and Tony eventually get into a fight and she sleeps with A.J. Quartermaine (ex- Sean Kanan). Carly becomes pregnant and Tony threatens to take her child from her. A.J. doesn’t remember sleeping with Carly and Carly tells Tony that the child belongs to Jason Morgan (ex-Steve Burton). Carly gives birth to her son, Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell), and promptly leaves town. Jason has to sign for life-saving surgery for Michael immediately after his birth. Jason also raises Michael for the first year of his life. Eventually, Robin Scorpio (ex-Kimberly McCullough) spills the truth about Michael’s father. Carly eventually marries Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) who adopts Michael.

Although General Hospital’s Carly is 48 years old, she can act much younger at times. Carly’s sense of right and wrong often gets twisted leaving her in a huge mess. Jason was always around to pull Carly out of the fire but he isn’t there anymore. Carly has kept truths from people that should have been revealed and taken some bad advice from well-meaning people. However, Carly loves her family and will do whatever it takes to keep them safe. Carly even married her best friend to protect her family from the other mobsters lurking around Port Charles.

Carly is certainly a force to be reckoned with and most of the women of Port Charles know this. However, currently, Carly gets along with the two women that she hated the most. Perhaps Carly has learned a little bit since she first arrived in town.
