Soap opera veteran Michael Tylo, who appeared on numerous soaps throughout his career, including All My Children and Guiding Light, has passed away at the age of 73.
Michael Tylo: A Longtime Soap Opera Career
The actor’s death was announced on Tuesday by The University of Nevada where Tylo was a film professor. The cause of his death is not yet known.
Michael Tylo first appeared on soaps in 980 with a bit part on NBC’s Another World, but finally made it big on daytime a year later when he was cast as Quint Chamberlain on CBS’s Guiding Light. His pairing with Lisa Brown’s Nola was legendary as were her many elaborate and romantic fantasies. He even returned to the soap in the 1990s to reprise the character.
In 1987, Tylo moved onto ABC’s All My Children where he played Matt Connolly, a love interest for Susan Lucci’s Erica Kane. That is where he met an actress by the name of Deborah Morehart, who would one day change her name to Hunter Tylo after they married. The Tylos were married for nearly 20 years from 1988-2007 and had four children together. Michael Tylo, Jr, also known as Mickey, died in 2007 after he drowned.
In 1992, Tylor moved back to CBS where he created the role of Blade Bladeson and started a romance with Eileen Davidson’s Ashley. In the three years he was with the soap, Tylo also played Blade’s lookalike, Rick. In later years, Tylo appeared on The Young and the Restless, The Bold and the Beautiful, and General Hospital.
Michael Tylo Will Be Missed
The University of Nevada added a special tribute to the actor after his death on Wednesday, saying: “Michael Tylo was a beautiful and caring human being — he was so special,” said Uscher. “He was an exemplary friend, colleague, teacher, and artist. He had such a distinguished and rich career, but he was humble about his accomplishments. He loved his family dearly and lived a joyous life, but he left us way too soon. We will miss him greatly, but feel deep gratitude about all that Michael contributed to the College of Fine Arts, UNLV, and the world.”
Tylo is survived by his wife, Rachelle, and their daughter, Kollette. He is also survived by his three living children with Hunter Tylo, Christopher, Izabella, and Katya.
RIP Michael Tylo!
