General Hospital star Jonathan Jackson has had quite a rollercoaster experience when it comes to his on-again, off-again career and work relationship in Port Charles. Well, that and the rest of his acting career, too.
Things About General Hospital’s Jonathan Jackson That You Never Knew
That’s because each time he’s tried to come back on the canvas, it seems like something was tragically getting in his way, both on General Hospital and his other projects, too.
Jonathan first played Lucky back in 1993 but ended his role in 1999 just to come back ten years later. Needless to say, fans were overjoyed when he returned to the role, but not so much when they learned that it would be short term.
In 2004, Jonathan landed a role on Terminator” The Sarah Connor Chronicles, but that didn’t last long, either. Jonathan played the father of John Connor before the show was ultimately canceled.
Back in 2011, General Hospital fans were left heartbroken when it was announced that Jonathan had left the show. This, despite the fact that he won an Emmy statuette that year for his performance.
In 2016, Jonathan tried his hand at primetime television. He managed to snag a role on ABC’s Nashville, but unfortunately the drama was canceled after just four seasons.
Back in 2021, Jonathan did hint that he would be willing to return to General Hospital, even though he knew at the time that he didn’t have all the logistics in place.

What made things difficult though is that Jonathan and his wife Lisa Vultaggio, who is also best known for her role as Hannah on the hit ABC soap, both move to Ireland to start a new life for themselves.
He said, “When I left in 1999, I always had it in my mind to come back, you know, periodically. So I’m always open to that. I’ve never really been of the mentality of closing that door.”
The actor continued, “It certainly becomes more difficult to figure out [coming back to GH], not only living in Ireland but on top of that, with the travel restrictions and those complications, it makes it very difficult. But it is a strange thing that Lucky left to [go to] Ireland [upon his 2011 departure] and that I’ve ended up living here!”
General Hospital airs weekdays on the ABC network. Check your local listings for times.
