Daytime Drama Stars Stand Up & Stand Together!
Soap stars have rallied together to participate in a live stream event called “Daytime Stands Up: A Benefit For Stand Up To Cancer … We All Have A Story”, which will take place on Thursday, May 16.
The three-hour online benefit will feature some of daytime drama’s top stars – both present and past – who will share their personal experiences and stories with cancer.
The event will stream from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. (ET) on the respective YouTube channels of both Michael Fairman and Alan Locher (Michael Fairman Channel and The Locher Room).
Alan Locher & Michael Fairman Comment On The Event
Alan Locher recently commented on the streaming event, noting, “Daytime television invites viewers into the private lives of characters, often bringing important issues like cancer screenings into living rooms and around water coolers.
Soaps debuted the first cancer storyline in 1962 – years before the topic was discussed in the mainstream, and it left an indelible impact: a whole generation of women who scheduled a potentially life-saving Pap smear for the first time.”
(Locher is talking about the Guiding Light storyline that centered around Bert Bauer, played by Charita Bauer).
Michael Fairman also talks about the online event, stating, “For so many viewers, this brought the issue front and center.
Today, it’s become almost impossible to avoid; but there is hope with cancer research, thanks to organizations like Stand Up To Cancer.”
A Silent Auction For Soap Fans
In addition to the online event, Stand Up To Cancer will launch an eBay silent auction, running from May 16 to May 26.
Viewers can bid on a number of interesting items, including an autographed script from the Y&R cast; a meet-and-greet experience with the Days cast; and a video call with GH’s Laura Wright (Carly Spencer), Cynthia Watros (Nina Reeves), and Maur West (Ava Jerome).
What Fans Can Expect From The Online Event
“Daytime Stands Up: A Benefit For Stand Up To Cancer … We All Have A Story” will feature personal cancer-surviving stories from Y&R’s Colleen Zenk (Jordan), GH’s Cameron Mathison, and Y&R’s Eric Braeden. Braeden will also share memories of former co-star, the late Meg Bennett (Julia Newman).
In addition, there will be tributes to soap stars that have lost their cancer battles, including one for the late Jacklyn Zeman (GH’s Bobbie Spencer), which will be conducted by her three daughters, plus so much more.
Soap actresses who have had onscreen cancer storylines will also be spotlighted, including testimonials from the Y&R’s Eileen Davidson (Ashley Abbott), Sharon Case (Sharon Newman), and others.
Plus, Days fans won’t want to miss The Days Players, featuring Carson Boatman (Johnny DiMera), Brandon Barash (Stefan DiMera), Eric Martsolf (Brady Black), and Wally Kurth (Justin Kiriakis).
Lastly, fans can expect appearances by Don Diamont (Bold’s Bill Spencer), Eden McCoy (GH’s Josslyn Jacks), Kin Shriner (GH’s Scotty Baldwin), Michelle Stafford (Y&R’s Phyllis Summers), and many other top soap stars.
