What Really Happened To General Hospital’s Kathleen Gati And Liesl Obrecht?

When General Hospital first introduced Dr. Liesl Obrecht to the Port Charles scene a dozen years ago, she was a supreme villainess who kidnapped Robin Scorpio and caused chaos everywhere as the on-again/off-again lover of Cesar Faison.

Eventually, we learned Liesl (Kathleen Gati) was the mother of both Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) and Nathan West (Ryan Paevey), as well as the sister of Madeline Reeves (Donna Mills) and aunt of Nina Reeves (Michelle Stafford and Cynthia Watros).

She secured herself a position as GH chief of staff and proceeded to cause all sorts of problems for Port Charles citizens, but at least made a great friend in Franco Baldwin (Roger Howarth).

After a few prison stints, she seemed to mellow until she took Peter August (Wes Ramsey) hostage as she blamed him for Nathan’s death.

It seemed like a horrible thing at the time until Peter became more hated than Liesl and many fans felt she should have kept him tied to that bed while torturing him with cupcakes and sandwiches for the rest of his life.

GH Spoilers – Liesl Was A Great Match With Scott Baldwin

Liesl later endeared herself to the audience when she began a romance with Scott Baldwin (Kin Shriner) and became his Schnitzel.

We even forgave her for brainwashing Dante Falconeri and turning him into a killer since his mission was to kill Peter. Sadly, Britt died in her arms in 2023 and Liesl oddly blamed Scott and broke up with him.

She later became a hero when she helped defeat Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessy) in Greenland and donated her bone marrow to Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen) so she could beat cancer. Then, she left town on two extended trips and we haven’t seen her since she embarked on the second one.

At least we now know what Kathleen Gati has been up to and it might be the reason that Liesl is no longer seen. As Gati tweeted on March 7:

“Just a little hint to say I’ve been quiet because I am busy acting in a beautiful movie. Can’t say more at the moment. Those NDAs are powerful! But I am sending my love to you all!”

Does that mean that Liesl might make a comeback after Gati is done filming her movie? That could lead to a triangle with Scott and Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring), as Scott has since moved on and Liesl might want him back.
