We are almost to the end of 2020 and General Hospital spoilers and updates reveal in Port Charles we would like to know what you think was the best storyline of 2020! Some have been ongoing from earlier, but concluded in 2020. Let us know what you think!

Valentin Cassadine Finds Out He Isn’t A Cassadine After All

When Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) found out he wasn’t a Cassadine after all, it changed the Cassadine climate, if you will, forever. The storyline began with the revelation that Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma) was alive, in 2019. It carried over into 2020 with Nikolas still trying to oust Valentin from the Cassadine mansion and regain Cassadine Industries from him. Several months were spent trying to find where a codicil to Mikkos Cassadine’s (John Colicos) will, which Nikolas maintained would prove Valentin was not the true heir.

The fight over Wyndemere, Spoon Island, Cassadine Island in Greece, and Cassadine Industries had actually started between Spencer Cassadine (Nicolas J. Bechtel) after Nikolas disappeared. But as a small boy, Spencer could not do much about the situation except complain. Nikolas took up the fight when he returned. Finally, the codicil was found by Ava Jerome, now Ava Cassadine (Maura West) behind a portrait of Helena Cassadine (Constance Towers). The codicil revealed that Valentin was not Mikkos’ son, but the product of an affair that Helena had. Nikolas forced Valentin to submit to a DNA test which also proved Valentin was not a Cassadine. Martin Grey (Michael E. Knight) gave the results to a stunned Valentin. So far, Valentin’s father’s identity has not been revealed.

The Revelation That Wiley Cooper-Jones Was Really Jonah Corinthos

AMP in the post

General Hospital viewers will recall that when Lucas Jones (then Ryan Carnes) and Brad Cooper (Parry Shen) first adopted baby Wiley Cooper-Jones (Erik and Theodore Olson) he was later revealed to have been the son of Shiloh Archer (Coby Ryan McLaughlin) and Willow Tait, (Katelyn MacMullen) now Willow Corinthos. The original Wiley sadly died only a couple of days old from SIDS. Brad, not knowing what to do or how to tell Lucas, put the dead baby in the backseat of his car and drove aimlessly out in the country. At the same time, a fugitive Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) had assisted Nelle Benson (Chloe Lanier) in giving birth to Jonah Corinthos (Erik and Theodore Olson) her son with Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell). Brad saw Nelle walking with the newborn and stopped to pick her up, and Nelle, knowing she would soon be arrested, talked Brad into swapping babies. She didn’t want the Corinthos family to raise her son.

Brad went to great lengths to keep the sordid secret from Lucas, but his guilt wore on him as time went on. He confided the switch in Julian Jerome (William DeVry) who grudgingly kept his secret, and Julian finally lost patience with the scheming Brad. He sabotaged Brad’s car, hoping Brad would get in an accident and die. He checked everything out and thought only Brad would be affected, but it backfired on him. Lucas and Brad were driving in the car arguing (thankfully the baby was not in the car at the time) and Lucas was driving. Brad confessed the switch to Lucas, and swerved to avoid another car, which was driven by Kendra Lennon (Michelle Argyris) in the process of trying to run over a drugged Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn)!

Julian and Neil Byrne (Joe Flanigan) had been trying to save Alexis from Kendra, who had a death wish for Alexis. They got there just in time to pull Alexis off the road and out of danger, and Kendra and Lucas collided! Julian realized there was another set of tire tracks and followed it to a ditch and discovered Brad and Lucas in the wrecked car! Lucas survived, but had amnesia where the night of the wreck was concerned for several months. He and Brad worked things out after he was released from GH, and decided to leave Port Charles when a lucrative job opportunity opened up in Portland, Oregon. Then, at a going away party at Sonny and Carly Corinthos’ (Maurice Benard, Laura Wright) home, Lucas remembered what Brad confessed! Lucas sadly did what was right and turned the tot, now over a year old, to Michael. Since the baby had been called Wiley all along, Michael kept the name and he became Wiley Corinthos.

Nina Reeves’ Daughter Is Revealed To Be Nelle Benson – But Not To Nina!

AMP in the post

This storyline is ongoing in the sense that Nina does not yet know the truth about her long lost daughter as of this writing. After Sasha Gilmore (Sofia Mattsson) was outed as a fraud in 2019, Nina, now involved with Jasper “Jax” Jacks (Ingo Rademacher) had given up the search for her long-lost daughter. However, she continued to wear the half-heart necklace frequently. Eventually, she decided to pick up the search for her daughter again, with Jax helping. They traced the half-heart necklace to a retired jeweler in New York, using a jeweler’s mark. Then they contacted the woman whose name was on the receipt, after much effort to find her. Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) assisted in finding the woman, Nina having recognized the name.

It was the name of a nurse who had taken care of her while in Crichton-Clark, the facility she was in for twenty-five years, most of it in a coma. The nurse met with Jax and Nina at the Metro Court restaurant, but she could not tell them where the baby was now. She was able to tell them the baby was a girl, and born healthy. The nurse was tasked with hand delivering her to the adoptive parents, who were in Florida. Earlier in the year, a Nelle-centric episode revealed a young Nelle (Willa Rose) wearing the half-heart necklace in a scene where Eden McCoy played a teenage Carly confronting her stepfather, Frank Benson played by James Patrick Stuart. Nelle’s storyline concluded with her apparent death from a fall off a cliff. She had kidnapped Wiley, and was on the run. Michael tracked Wiley with a tracker left inside a toy to the Corinthos vacation cabin and he got Wiley away from Nelle, who ran out the back door.

Carly and Jax, who had followed Michael, arrived at the cabin and Carly ran after Nelle, with Jax waiting for Carly when she hadn’t returned. Michael went back to Port Charles with Wiley. Carly and Nelle struggled in a clearing, and Nelle got the best of Carly and knocked her out. Carly came to, and heard cries for help. Nelle was hanging on to the edge of a cliff, and although Carly tried to save her, Nelle lost her grip and fell, presumably to her death below. Jax told Carly to cover that part up, fearing she’d be implicated in Nelle’s death because of their past history. A few weeks later a body was recovered in Pennsylvania and returned to Port Charles, identified as that of Nelle. During that time Avery Corinthos-Jerome (Ava and Grace Scarola) stayed at the Corinthos cabin overnight with Ava Jerome Cassadine (Maura West) and decided to explore the woods at night, giving Ava and her stepfather Nikolas a scare!

Avery found Nelle’s necklace and brought it home in her backpack. Sonny saw the necklace, but didn’t know where she got it from. Carly saw the necklace but only remembered it was Nelle’s after several weeks, and she decided not to tell Nina! Meanwhile, Nina had taken responsibility to give Nelle a decent burial, but she still doesn’t know that Nelle was her daughter – based on Nelle having the match to the necklace. It would need to be examined for the jeweler’s mark to ensure it really is a match! One would have thought Frank Benson would have sold a solid gold necklace long ago, after all, he sold Nelle’s kidney!

Mike Corbin Dies From Alzheimer’s Disease

In one of the saddest storylines of 2020, Mike Corbin (Max Gail) lost his battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. GH fans, as well as the Corinthos family watched him steadily decline through the year until his death in September. At the beginning of the year, Sonny thought he had a chance of a cure for Mike, or at least a delay to the inevitable when Dr. Griffin Munro (Matt Cohen) told him of a promising medical trial in New York City. However, what started out as a “good old days” trip to Bensonhurst hoping to trigger some memories turned out to be a fight for their life, as Sonny and Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) fought off goons who attacked a bar that had been a favorite of Mike’s.

Mike suffered great emotional and mental trauma because of it and Sonny took him back home! From that point, he steadily declined although he still had some lucid moments. At one point he was confused with a picture puzzle he was working on at Turning Woods and had taken his shoe off and put it on the incomplete puzzle! Finally, he started having problems swallowing and couldn’t eat; Sonny was torn between putting a feeding tube in or letting him go. Sonny finally had peace with letting Mike die.
