Who Was Karen Wexler On General Hospital?

General Hospital (GH) spoilers divulge that the name Karen Wexler has come up now that John “Jagger” Cates is back in Port Charles. Karen debuted in 1992, portrayed by Cari Shayne. The character was later portrayed by Jennifer Hammon and Marie Wilson.

The character had a complicated history and is now deceased, but she remains central to several characters still on the canvas. Here is everything to know about this intriguing character!

Teen Karen was a high schooler with an alcoholic mother; she was molested by her mother’s boyfriend, Ray Conway.

She was briefly involved with Jason Quartermaine (Steve Burton) and then Jagger Cates (then Antonio Sabàto Jr., currently Adam Harrington).

After meeting Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) she began stripping in his club, the Paradise Lounge. She got hooked on drugs and had a brief fling with Sonny.

While stripping at night, Karen was in a GH program for future doctors when Dr. Alan Quartermaine (Stuart Damon) caught her stealing drugs.

She confessed to Gail Baldwin (Susan Brown) about the past abuse and would later find out that Scott Baldwin (Kin Shriner) was her father.

Eventually she and Jagger reunited, they married, and left town when he was accepted into the police academy in Chicago; they later moved to San Francisco where Jagger became an undercover cop.

They returned for a quick visit when Jagger’s brother Stone Cates (Michael Sutton) was dying of AIDS. Karen later returned to Port Charles alone, where she interned at GH. Karen and Jagger’s marriage didn’t last and they divorced in 1997.

Karen was later engaged to Joe Scanlon (last played by Alex Mendoza) and became chief resident at GH. During the nurse’s strike she took pills from GH but admitted her addiction to Alan and went to rehab.

In the years that followed, Karen helped to battle the vampires (including one played by Michael Easton who know plays Hamilton Finn) wreaking havoc on PC.

Later, in a bizarre turn of events, Karen’s boyfriend Frank Scanlon (Jay Pickett) attacked her during a live interview which led to her to a bad place and she considered stripping again.

Karen died in 2003 after being hit by a car. Jagger is now back in PC, calling himself John, and employed by the FBI.

He caught up with Scott at Karen’s gravestone and the two reminisced about their hatred for Sonny. While Karen is now deceased, her memory still haunts many in Port Charles.
