Worst New Character Of 2022: General Hospital’s Cody Bell

General Hospital may have thought it was doing something great when it introduced a brand-new male character by having him parachute into the Metro Court poll but that character ended up being someone who fans just can’t get themselves to like. And there are many, many reasons for that.

General Hospital Spoilers – Did Cody Bell Escape From The 1980s?

From his hairdo to his attitude, Cody Bell (Josh Kelly) could have been a misogynistic male soap character straight out of the 80s, but this is 2022 and some of the comments he made to and about Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) were downright offensive. Even more offensive was the idea that a woman like Britt would even give this neanderthal character the time of day.

Britt was once a woman with pride and would never fall for a man like Cody just because a dating app algorithm decided they were the perfect match, which was all a lie anyway. As Cody had to take lessons on women from Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms), all we could do was shake our heads.

GH Spoilers – Cody Bell Ate Too Much Of Port Charles

Aside from the fact that Cody is a chauvinistic con man, he also took up way too much air time for our tastes. Why did a new character with retconned ties to the canvas end up getting more time on screen than old favorites like Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) and Laura Collins (Genie Francis)? It made absolutely no sense to somehow put Cody into multiple stories on the soap.

Cody also did not need to be Mac Scorpio’s (John J. York) long-lost son because Mac Scorpio did not need a long-lost son, but if Mac had to have an adult child out there somewhere, did it really need to be Cody? All Mac will end up doing is hurting Mac when Mac finds out that Cody lied about the DNA test results just to get his hands on a necklace that didn’t really belong to him anyway.

Just everything about Cody screams ick every time we see him and this is not Josh Kelly’s fault. He is a fine actor who is sadly stuck playing a very ill-conceived character. Stay tuned to General Hospital weekdays to see what Cody does next.
