According to the synopsis, Angie’s (Samantha Cope) favorite part of Christmas has always been the Christmas Eve tree lighting in the town square. However, this Christmas is her first without her mom, who had always dreamed of winning the annual tree-decorating contest and seeing her work light up the town square.

Meanwhile, Angie comes to realize that winning that contest and decorating the town’s Christmas tree is the perfect way to honor her mom. However, what she doesn’t expect is for her high school sweetheart, David (Ross Jirgl), and his cute daughter Gabby to also enter the contest.

Speaking of his role in the Great American Christmas movie, Jirgl said that Samantha was wonderful to work with and that he had a great time working with her. On his own role, he said that David was a “very interesting character to play.”

What I love most about him is that he has some depth to him and he is very relatable. He came from a place of loss and heartbreak. I liked that about him and I like being able to bring that to life.

Obviously a romantic at heart, Ross went on to say he thinks love can be found in a place where you least expect it, adding:

Sometimes, it is right in front of your face and you just got to see the signs. Keep your mind and your heart open. If you are somebody looking for love, do those things and you will find it.

Jirgl spoke on being an actor in the digital age, where “content is everywhere.” However, what he likes is that it allows smaller movies to reach a wider audience. Ross explained that they are not in the business for themselves, but are in the business for the audience. He explained that they are trying to bring the truth to the audience and a “warm story.”

The digital age can reach so many people and such a wide audience, I like where we are at right now with streaming and content in so many different platforms.

Jirgl went on to inspire young actors, telling them to “just do it for the love of the arts and telling a story that you want to tell.” He added:

Get in front or behind the camera, find the right teachers and focus on becoming the best artist that you can be.
