In tonight’s When Hope Calls: Brookfield episode, Ronnie returned from a business trip to find Sam has changed a lot at the hotel. He changed the menu.

He made it cheaper to eat there. He also changed when they first open. They now open an hour earlier to supposedly meet the demand for early birds. Ronnie had a problem with these changes. He said people are used to their ways and that changing everything won’t bring in extra money.

He even went as far to say that he brings the panache to the hotel. Sam just brought in the cash. Preferably his own.

Ronnie still wanted to add another floor to the hotel. He was hoping for Sam to foot the bill for it. Only Sam disagreed with the idea.

He said one of the best ways to make money was to rent out the owner’s suit. Ronnie was taking up room in there. It was a suite of all things and that meant they could sell it as a suite.

Hannah had stopped by the hotel. She said she had a guest coming in on the next stagecoach and that she needed to impress her. Sam wanted to offer this woman the owner’s suite. Ronnie stopped him.

It doesn’t matter if the hotel was fulling up. Ronnie will never give up his own suite. Its where he lives. He often comes down for breakfast in his robe and that was another thing that Sam changed.

Sam said no more robes in the parlor. He wanted to give the place more of an upscale look. He also wanted to change the name of the hotel from Royal Brookfield to the Royal Goldminer.

He said that way the hotel would be known as both of theirs. He failed to see that Ronnie didn’t like a speaking partner. He preferred the strong and silent type. Like Tess!

The two men were so busy arguing that they failed to notice that Hannah’s guest was late. Hannah was waiting on Justine Marcel. She was the investor coming to look at Hannah’s collection.

Justine was traveling all the way from NYC to do so and it was important to leave a good impression. Unfortunately, that wasn’t going to happen.

Justine was taking a stagecoach with a diamond tradesmen. It must have gotten out because their stagecoach was robbed. The diamond guy had a gun and literally refused to use it to defend himself or her.

Justine was forced to part with her ring just so she wouldn’t be harmed. Such a thing didn’t put her in a good mood. The one thing that put her at ease was when the mounties showed up.

They were hot on the trail of the robbers. They found out the stagecoach was running too late so they went looking. They found the driver as well as the passengers.

No one was seriously harmed. They might take a cab on the next trip like Carter Williams. The name was familiar because Nora has been talking about him a lot. He was her former boss.

Carter Williams has since been accused of bribing judges to win court cases. He was accused by Nora’s former assistant. According to Williams, it was all lies. He met with Nora. He told her his side. He claimed he caught the assistant stealing money from clients’ trust funds.

He fired her but he didn’t report it to the authorities what she did. He still wanted to give her a chance to start over. It was Zoe who aimed for revenge instead. Or that’s the story Williams was telling Nora. Nora didn’t know who to believe.

Nora worked alongside Zoe for years without issue. She did the same with Williams. Williams was even her mentor. He instilled a strong moral code in her and so she didn’t think it sounded like him to bribe anyone just to win a case. Much less a judge.

Williams was now fighting the charges. He came to see Nora because he wanted her to write a letter of good character. She didn’t have to lie.

She only had to say what he was like as a boss. She decided to write the letter because of her great respect for Williams. She told him as much.

Nora was also asked for legal advice from Sam and Ronnie. They wanted a way to settle their constant disputes over the hotel. They owned it equally it so they needed a third person to help make peace.

Nora couldn’t do that. They would still have to make an agreement that she would get drawn up as a legally binding statement. She can’t do the work for them.

Sam later got the idea to settle any argument with a coin toss. It was fate that would answer. Not each other’s prides. Nora telling Williams about her great trust him was what broke him in the end.

Williams later confessed to the authorities that he did bribe judges to win cases. Zoe was telling the truth. She was always telling the truth and Nora helped get justice for her.

Who knows what would’ve happen to Zoe’s career if anyone else believed Williams’s lies? Meanwhile the mounties finding the stagecoach helped become the start of something new between Justine and Constable Jim Renoylds. They flirted as he escorted her to Hannah’s ranch.

Hannah was unfortunately too busy dealing with a leaking roof to have their meeting. And so they agreed to talk the next day.

Hannah stayed at the ranch helping repair the roof. Justine went into town with Jim. Jim asked her if the ring she lost was important. He wanted to know if it was an engagement ring. Justine reassured him that it was her grandmother’s wedding ring.

The mounties had caught one of the robbers. They just didn’t get the ringleader, Johnny Greene. They have to catch him another day.

Williams shared a cell with the man they did catch. Nora never believed in his innocence. She said all those things about him being a great man because she wanted to push him into a confession. Her plan worked even if it broke her heart.

The kids from the orphanage were celebrating Vocational Day. They all took on jobs in town to get some hands on experience and Nora got to see them shine.

She also found out who broke the sewing machine. She used the same speech on Williams to find out who was behind it.

The only thing she needed to know now was if she had been a good lawyer or if it had all been a lie? Williams told her that she was a great lawyer.

Encouraging her was one of the few things he was proud of. And even Michael Flecther agreed with him.

THE END!
