Emilie de Ravin and Andrew Walker star in the new film The Reluctant Royal, about Johnny Payne (Walker), a car mechanic from Philadelphia, who discovers that his estranged father is a duke.

Prudence Thorp, (Emilie) the duke’s advisor, assists Johnny in navigating this unfamiliar life.

In an interview with Swooon, Emilie de Ravin discussed the story further, highlighting the significant development the characters undergo when Johnny travels overseas. There will be a huge evolution ahead for the two characters Prudence and Johnny as well as for the duke.

Emilie Says It’s A Unique Love Story

She starts by saying, “Many characters go through a big change, especially Prudence, Johnny, and the duke;” she points out that this story is not just a regular love story.

“While it focuses on the love between Prudence and Johnny, it also explores the love between the duke and his son, as well as my relationship with the duke.”

Prudence is more than just his assistant; the duke has been like a father to her since she was a child. She emphasizes that a key theme in the movie is how differences don’t have to lead to conflict. There was some of that at first, but if you are a good person, those differences don’t matter.

A Different Type Of “Opposites Attract” Romcom

The new romantic comedy, The Reluctant Royal, offers a fresh take on royal films; Emilie de Ravin describes her character as being “stuck in a bubble.”

Johnny’s character introduces Prudence to new adventures and excitement through his perspective. This film marks Emilie’s first project with the network, making it a unique experience for her.

She expressed a desire to work with the cast again, especially Andrew-Emilie also mentioned that filming was “a lot of fun” and filled with laughter. The movie was shot in Ireland at Luttrellstown Castle in Dublin, creating a magical atmosphere.

The Reluctant Royal premiered on Saturday, March 8, at 8 p.m. Eastern on the Hallmark Channel-but if you missed it, there’s no need to worry. You can stream this Royal Romance on Peacock for up to 72 hours after it aired.
