Costa Rica is an amazingly beautiful country in Central America, known for its biodiversity and ecotourism. This time, Punta Leona, a destination on the country’s Central Pacific, has been chosen as a film set for a Hallmark Channel movie, set to air in August 2024. While Hallmark has yet to announce the movie, its plot or its cast, read on to find out what we know so far about this new, original feel-good movie.
Costa Rica is a filming location for a new Hallmark rom-com
Nestled on Costa Rica’s Central Pacific coast is beautiful Punta Leona, a gorgeous and biodiverse area of the country with idyllic beaches and lush, green vegetation and more. Meanwhile, this beautiful location has set the stage for a new, original Hallmark movie, set for release in August 2024.
As reported by the Tiko Times, Sergio Miranda, the producer and owner of Costa Rica Production Services spoke of the new, exciting project, saying:
During the month of March, an international film crew, composed mainly of Americans, traveled to the Punta Leona area to produce a made-for-television romantic comedy film, whose script was written for the story to take place here.
As with all Hallmark movies, the film crew and cast were in Costa Rica for around 15 days. Moreover, 20 Costa Rica residents participated in the film crew.
Miranda explained that the feel-good network chose Punta Leona as its film set due to its ease in logical matters. This included several locations where there was convenient proximity to the country’s capital making Punta Leona an ideal location for film productions.
Beach and jungle as a filming location
The main reason for its choice for a Hallmark film set was the combination of idyllic beaches and lush jungle. Moreover, having hotel rooms so close to these locations made it the perfect film set.
Miranda also spoke of Playa Mantas and the Punta Leona Private Reserve which were also used as filming locations. These included filming in other natural areas, as well as facilities at the hotel and a nearby private luxury villa.
Sara Jimenez, the Marketing Manager for Hotel Punta Leona said in a statement:
We are proud to have been chosen as the setting for Hallmark’s next romantic comedy film. The natural beauty of Punta Leona provided the perfect location for this production, and we can’t wait to see how it captivates millions of viewers around the world, inspiring them to visit Costa Rica.
Punta Leona has starred in movies before
Meanwhile, the filming set for the new rom-com has been used in an international movie. Back in 1992, American film director, Ridley Scott filmed the movie, 1492: The Conquest of Paradise, which told the story of the arrival and conquest of the Americas by the Spaniards.
In the case of the latest movie, it is expected that Hallmark Channel will release more details, including the rom-com’s cast and plot.
