Former Hallmark hunk Cameron Mathison has opened up about his big move to the feel-good network’s competitor, Great American Family.

In a recent interview, Mathison said he is “definitely all in” about working with the newer platform. But why did he make the move like many of his co-stars? Would he ever consider a return to the original feel-good channel?

Why Hallmark alum Cameron Mathison left for Great American Family

Recently, Cameron Mathison was interviewed by Us Weekly, and opened up about making his big move from Hallmark to Great American Family. Moreover, he also gave some insight into whether he would ever consider a return to Hallmark.

During the interview, Mathison said, “I mean, Hallmark is where I started, and everybody at Great American I knew from Hallmark, most of ’em were over at Hallmark.”

Cameron then opened up about his experience over the years with Hallmark, saying:

I love working there and leaving my ‘Murder, She Baked’ series with Ali Sweeney and everybody else, that’s hard. Those are my friends, and I love doing those movies, and they’re still going.

However, he added:  “From another perspective, the people that are at Great American are the people that I started with at Hallmark. So it’s, like, coming home with Great American Family… so in that sense, it’s not hard at all because it’s very easy.”

Meanwhile, Mathison noted that he believes a lot of fans are watching both Hallmark and Great American Family. However, he did acknowledge that for some Hallmark fans, it is tough as they only want to watch one network or the other, and he gets that, adding, “It’s never easy for stuff like that.”

Meanwhile, the actor noted that he’s still got a lot of “stuff” on Hallmark and that he is shooting a “lot of stuff on Great American Family, adding, “It’s really good people, and we’re doing good stuff.”

Would Cameron Mathison consider a return to Hallmark?

When asked if he would consider a return to Hallmark Channel, Mathison said he’ll “never say never.” He explained that the people at Hallmark are “very near and dear to my heart.” However, he did add, “Then, Great American Family is where I’m at now, and we’re doing cool stuff.”

Cameron further explained, “It’s hard to leave any show, any channel and I’ve done that through my career. But at the same time, I’m lucky that I stay in touch with people…  they’re very near and dear to my heart.”

Moreover, the former Hallmark star has been working with Great American Family for three years and says it had been “such a gift” and an “amazing opportunity.”

Mathison spoke of his upcoming project for Great American, which is a Christmas movie involving another Hallmark alum, Candace Cameron Bure, saying:

We’re filming that last two weeks of August, first week of September. It’s a really fun script.

I love the dynamic… Candace and I have been talking about working together for a very long time, and so that’s finally happening.

Mathison was asked again about whether he would consider a return to Hallmark, specifically relating to his movie series with Alison Sweeney.

“I never say never,” he admitted, adding, “I never know where things will take me, but at the same time, yeah, of course there’s always a chance.”

The Great American Family actor added, “I love [Sweeney], we stay in touch, but right now, I’m definitely all in [with] Great American.”
