A brand new, original movie, Groundswell, is coming to Hallmark Channel on August 21, 2022. The movie stars starring Lacey Chabert (Christmas at Castle Heart, MeanGirls, Lost In Space, The Ghosts of the Girlfriends Past) and Ektor Rivera (Sugar Plum Twist, The Shallows). Hallmark Channel original movie Groundswell
The new movie, Groundswell is an adaptation of Katie Lee Biegel’s first novel of the same name. The author has also written a number of cookbooks. Meanwhile, Biegel will serve as executive producer on the movie and will also make a cameo appearance.
The plot of the movie features Atlanta chef Emma (Chabert), who is suffering a personal and professional setback. She travels to Hawaii where she meets Ben (Rivera), a handsome, reclusive surf instructor. Having lessons with him helps her to regain her footing.
Speaking to Deadline, Biegel, said she is a huge fan of Lacey’s movies. She added that Chabert has been her dream choice to play Emma “from Day 1.” She went on to say:
“This project is close to my heart, and there is no one better to bring us along on Emma’s journey.”
Other cast members in the Hallmark movie
According to the official IMDb page for the movie, other stars include Bernard Aderhold-Lindsey as Chef #1. The actor is known for his debut on Hawaii Five-0 (2019), Life (2019) and 20 Minutes in 2022. Meanwhile, Napoleon Tavale (Whatever) plays the role of Sebastian and Darny Chau plays a Surf Shop Cantina patron. Chau is known for her role in the 2018 version of Magnum, P.I.
Behind the scenes of Groundswell
Groundswell comes from Crown Media Productions and is also executive produced by Cameron Johann. Meanwhile, Ric Galindez and Roy Tjioe are producers. The movie is directed by Lee Friedlander from a script by Carlie Mantilla and John Eliot Jordan.
As readers will recall, Lacey Chabert signed a multi-picture deal with Crown Media Family Networks in February. Under the deal, she is set to headline and executive produce movies. Chabert will also develop other content for Hallmark Channel and its platforms over the next two years.
