The Hallmark Channel is renowned for its popular series and great movies and here we feature the top ten romantic movies released on the channel to date.
With all the bad stuff going on in this world, the Hallmark Channel has always been a great antidote. Not only does Hallmark make the best greeting cards, but their TV channel also features some of the best, made-for-television movies, perfect to chill out and relax. While there are great movies all year round, Hallmark also features the perfect holiday-related films for Valentine’s Day and Christmas.
The following ten movies are ranked in order of their level of heart-warming and enjoyable TV and if you missed them before, many of the films are now available on Netflix:
1. The Christmas Card (2006)
Speaking of Christmas, this romantic movie stars Ed Asner, John Newton, Alice Evans and Lois Nettleton. The Christmas Card is about a soldier serving in Afghanistan who receives an anonymous Christmas card from a woman in California. The card touches him deeply, and after his tour of duty, he heads home on a mission to find the woman who sent him the card. This simple act will change two lives for the better.
2. The Lost Valentine (2011)
This romantic movie features Jennifer Love Hewitt as a reporter, looking for the truth about a woman’s (Betty White) husband (Billy Magnussen), a pilot who never returned from his tour of duty during World War II. While the husband finally returns home, the reporter goes on to meet the love of her life. Our favorite “Golden Girl” Betty received a SAG Award nomination in the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in the Television Movie category for her role in this truly heartwarming film.
3. A Country Wedding (2015)
Starring Autumn Reeser and Lauren Holly, the film is about a country western star (Jesse Metcalfe) who returns home to sell his childhood home, prior to his wedding to a famous actress. When he gets there, he bumps into the girl he proposed to when he was 8-years-old. In the absence of his fiancé, she helps him to plan his wedding. His romantic life gets complicated when his old feelings come flooding back, leading to him making a difficult choice in his life.
4. When Sparks Fly (2014)
Fans of the Duchess of Sussex will appreciate the fact that before marrying Prince Harry, Meghan Markle also starred in some Hallmark Channel movies. In this one, she plays a reporter (Amy Peterson) who gets sent back to her home town on assignment for the Fourth of July. She ends up having to spend time with her former boyfriend, now best friend’s fiancé, which gets a little awkward! The film also stars Lochlyn Munro, Chelsey Reist, Christopher Jacot, Kirsten Robek and Jacqueline Samuda.
5. Dater’s Handbook (2016)
Staying with Meghan, in this next movie she stars as a successful business woman who wants to change the way she views relationships. She reads a book about the dos-and-don’ts of dating, which leads her character to make a choice between two great men in her life. The film also stars Kristoffer Polaha and Jonathan Scarfe.
6. A Winter Princess (2019)
A Winter Princess is also about a royal, but not related to Meghan Markle this time! The film is about a princess who goes undercover during a visit to a ski resort. While there, she finds love while planning the 50th Anniversary Snow Ball at the ski resort. This romantic movie stars Natalie Hall, Chris McNally and Lara Gilchrist.
7. Harvest Moon (2015)
Jen Stone (Jessy Schram) is a city girl with a trust fund whose family has lost everything. She has to return to her country home to try and save the struggling pumpkin farm her father had invested in. The farm manager, Brett is Initially he is against the changes she is making, but they eventually work well together and turn the business around. In the process, love ensues. The film also stars Jesse Hutch and Rowen Kahn.
8. A Royal Christmas (2014)
Back to a royal subject, Lacey Chabert stars as Emily Taylor, a commoner and seamstress from Philadelphia, who discovers her otherwise ordinary boyfriend is the heir to a country! Emily then struggles to get used to her new life as a royal. Jane Seymour plays the role of the ice queen, her unimpressed future mother-in-law and Stephen Hagan plays her prince.
9. Unleashing Mr. Darcy (2016)
The romantic film was inspired by Jane Austin’s famous novel, Pride and Prejudice. In the film, Cindy Busby plays Elizabeth Scott, a private school teacher, who falls in love at first sight when meeting Donovan Darcy (Ryan Paevey) at a fancy dog show event. This contemporary version of a classic story was very well received.
10. Autumn Dreams (2015)
They say you never forget your first love. Annie (Jill Wagner) and Ben (Colin Egglesfield) were childhood sweethearts, who after 15 years discover their marriage had never officially been annulled. Now engaged to other people, Annie is set to be married the following month, while Ben is supposed to tie the knot on the following Saturday. The couple starts to wonder how things would have gone if they had stayed together. The movie also stars Rachel Hayward as Jessica Hancock and Ken Tremblett and Hal Hancock.
