HallmarkHallmark Channel channel fans have enjoyed the talents of Kavan Smith for years. For instance, in 2015, the 52-year-old starred in Hello, It’s Me. And Smith entered the world of When Calls The Heart that same year. Since then, Kavan has repeatedly shown why he became a fan favorite so quickly.

Hallmark Channel – Star Kavan Smith Talks Big Sky River

When Big Sky River debuts on Sunday, August 7, on Hallmark Movies And Mysteries, get ready for a new side of Kavan Smith. The actor’s role in the film contrasts dramatically with his previous films. And Kavan shared that Big Sky River gave him the opportunity to explore relationships that have fallen apart, noted Us magazine.

Smith will portray a local town sheriff named Boone Taylor. But can Boone balance love with his career? The film follows the sheriff as he falls in love with a divorcée named Tara, portrayed by Emmanuelle Vaugier. When Tara returns to Parable, Montana, Boone discovers that he feels ready to take a risk on a new relationship.

As a result, the movie explores “broken relationships,” shared Kavan in a Facebook Live chat. “This guy Boone Taylor is a man who’s lost his wife and is trying to raise two boys on his own.” But for Smith, the plot takes a different path from the usual “boy meets girl” romance. And instead, he describes it as “more about ‘broken family meets other broken family and we try to make it together as new family.’ And that’s really what spoke to me with this one,” he added.

Kavan Smith – Praises New Hallmark Movie As Unique

In addition, Smith praised his co-star. He and Emmanuelle worked closely together, discovering that “every day just got better and better and better,” gushed the actor. And Kavan also felt enthusiastic about how unique his new movie feels. Because it contrasts with Hallmark’s standard romantic comedy, Big Sky River “stands out,” added the actor.

Romance author Linda Lael Miller authored the book that sparked interest in a film. And Smith praised both the book and script. He expressed appreciation for “such a great script based on such a good book. It was kind of unlike a lot of the other Hallmark movies,” he added.

For instance, Kavan previously starred in more traditional Hallmark movies such as the Perfect Bride series. Smith began working on that series in 2017 with Pascale Hutton. And the two then returned to the same characters two years later for the sequel, The Perfect Bride: Wedding Bells. They later reunited in 2021 for You Had Me at Aloha. But Hallmark’s Big Sky River gives Kavan a chance to take on a character with more ups and downs.

However, Smith also showed his sense of humor in talking about the role on Instagram. “When I told my kids I was playing a cowboy they answered, ‘You? A cowboy?’” he joked. “Kids what are you gonna do? Tune in despite my kids.” Big Sky River debuts on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries Sunday, August 7, at 9 p.m.
