The CEO has promised there will be more progress moving forward while being grilled about the subject.

Hallmark Channel News – Crown Media Family Networks CEO Grilled

Hallmark Channel news reveals that Wonya Lucas is the CEO and president of Crown Media Family Networks and made a statement regarding LGBT during the winter Television Critics Association meeting, per The Wrap. The network has promised to move forward and includes more LGBT characters and storylines. This comes as reports pour in from media outlets that the CEO was grilled about it. Critics say that three movies out of the hundreds that are filmed don’t even make a dent. They also say that there really has been no progress in LGBT leads and that the characters are still being hidden in the background.

Hallmark Channel News – CEO Responds

Lucas responded to the critics during the meeting and insists that the network has made progress and they are proud of that progress.

“When I think about the Hallmark brand, it is inclusive, and all you have to do is walk in a Hallmark store and you can see cards for LGBTQ community, for Mahogany [a line of Hallmark cards], for the African American female community, and so on and so forth, faith. And so, we are really seeking to make sure that everyone can see themselves in our movies, because when we talk to our consumers, whether we’re talking to consumers of different races and ethnicities, even generationally, there are common themes and things that they are looking for in our movies. What we are going to do moving forward is just add a little more authenticity and complexity to the storylines.”

Hallmark Channel News – First Hallmark Movie With Gay Lead

This month, “Mix Up in the Mediterranean” will be Hallmark’s first movie with a gay lead. The film centers on a single man whose brother is a famous chef that is married to another man. During the meeting, the CEO brought up this movie during the heated discussion. Two Christmas movies that included LGBT characters were also mentioned, The Christmas House and Wedding Every Weekend.

Hallmark Channel News – Same-Sex Ad Controversy

Hallmark Channel news reveals that Hallmark pulled a same-sex ad on its network after complaints from viewers. Then, when they were slammed for doing so, they did a total 180.
