‘When Calls the Heart’ fans, we prefer to be called Hearties, are the key to the success of the Hallmark Channel’s highest-rated series. In an interview with Dr. Steve Greene, host of Greenlines on the Charisma Podcast Network, executive producer Brian Bird complimented Hearties on their devotion to the series and to each other.
The showrunner talked about Hearties, the longevity of ‘When Calls the Heart,’ and the hope that the series brings into the home of hundreds of thousands of viewers each week. Its devotees and believers in the message the Hallmark Channel series sends makes ‘WCTH’ a success.
The Hearties Annual Family Reunion is proof that ‘When Calls the Heart’ viewers want to connect on a deeper level. But it’s not just a once yearly reunion that keeps fans connected.
Hallmark Channel News – Will Elizabeth Thornton Open Her Heart To Love Again?
“[Hearties are] living it,” Bird said. “They’re actually living it with each other in groups across the world. [Hearties] care about one another, they pray for one another, they bring food to one another, they step up in times of need. [Hearties are] very much like small-group ministry in churches.”
The sixth season cliffhanger left Hearties wondering if Elizabeth Thornton (Erin Krakow) is slowly opening her heart to love again following the death of husband Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing). There is a hint of a friendship and possible romance building with either Nathan Grant (Kevin McGarry) or Lucas Bouchard (Chris McNally).
Fans were just as shocked and devastated by Jack’s death as Elizabeth. They may not be ready for the schoolteacher to move on. ‘When Calls the Heart’ writers are in no hurry to push Elizabeth into a new relationship. Executive producer Brian Bird expects the Hallmark Channel series to endure for years to come.
Hallmark Channel News – Season 7 Currently Being Filmed In Vancouver
“It’s an evergreen show that we see forever and ever,” Bird said. “But at some point, ‘When Calls the Heart’ will end. I don’t think that’s anywhere, anytime soon. But when it does, what will go on are all these [Hearties} friendships that are being made with the show as a catalyst. And that is the best legacy of what we’re trying to do.”
