Hallmark Film – Star Luke Macfarlane Talks LGBTQ Content
Luke Macfarlane has observed how the Hallmark Channel and Great American family channel differ. As a result, the actor known as the king of Christmas movies for his Hallmark films praised the channel’s commitment to representing the LGBTQ community. “Hallmark is absolutely making efforts to create queer content,” stated Macfarlane via Looper.
And the Hallmark film star praised the company for its transparent effort to become inclusive. “And I applaud them for that. They’ve been often the butt of jokes about the sort of limited nature of their cast,” admitted Luke. “But they’ve really changed that,” he added. “And they’re really continuing to do that.”
However, Macfarlane disagreed with those who think Hallmark just wants positive publicity. And instead, the actor pointed to the network’s LGBTQ holiday film The Holiday Sitter last year. Because that movie featured an LGBTQ couple, Luke feels that Hallmark has sincerely made an effort. And he added, “I think they’re doing that not just for the press. The Christmas movie [The Holiday Sitter] they did last year was a big success for them, had lots of viewers. There’s an audience there, for sure,” added Luke.
Luke Macfarlane – Promises New Hallmark Film
But the actor didn’t just praise Halllmark. Because of his appreciation for the channel, Macfarlane also shared that he will create a new holiday movie for Hallmark. However, the actor first took time to question Great American Family’s insistence on avoiding LGBTQ couples in its films. And the actor pointed out, “It’s that whole thing that was, why does me having visibility make yourself any less different? I think that we all deserve a place in the media, in the film world,” Macfarlane stressed.
And in addition to his admiration for Hallmark supporting LGBTQ+ representation, the actor shared his future with the channel. “Hallmark has been very good to me,” said Macfarlane. “And I have agreed to do a Christmas movie for them this year.” But the actor may feel challenged finding time.
Luke and Bros director Nick Stoller reunite for the Apple TV+ comedy series Platonic. Macfarlane will star with Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne. And he will portray a lawyer named Charlie, who needs to deal with his wife Sylvia’s friendship with Will. Macfarlane has starred in a variety of Hallmark projects. And in 2021, the actor appeared in the feature “All the Way,” which featured LGBTQ lead characters, noted the Hollywood Reporter.
