Hallmark made a thrilling announcement during the TCA Summer Press Tour on July 11, revealing Jonathan Bennett will be the host of their new reality competition series, “Finding Mr. Christmas.”
Ten hopeful actors will compete in festive challenges to win the coveted title of Mr. Christmas and earn a starring role in one of Hallmark Channel’s Countdown to Christmas movies.
People Magazine reported that this will be the network’s inaugural reality competition series, with Melissa Peterman as the lead judge. This will be the first time ever that Hallmark has entered into the arena of reality-based television offerings.
Hallmark Channel Spoilers: Host Jonathan Bennett Talks About The Show
The Mean Girls star, 43, made an appearance at the TCA event, giving fans a sneak peek into what they can expect from the upcoming reality show. “There are two types of people in the world; there are people that watch Hallmark movies and then there are liars,” Bennett stated.
“The idea for Finding Mr. Christmas … was sparked out of something that’s really happening in real life where people want to join the network. They want to be part of the family because they see how successful the brand is and how much people love the brand and they want to be in on the party.” “And so we thought, why not make a journey that people can watch on TV?” he continued.
Hallmark Channel Spoilers: The Competition Will Feature LGBTQ+ Contestants
Bennett took special pains to make sure potential viewers and contestants know that the competition will be inclusive, and all are welcome regardless of gender or sexual preference.
He noted that LGBTQ+ contestants will be part of the competition, stating, “I’m a Hallmark holiday hunk and I’m pretty darn gay.” He went on to say, “It’s like the Kelly Clarkson effect,” Bennett continued, according to People.
“Why do we love Kelly Clarkson-because we followed her ‘American Idol’ journey from the start and grew to love her.” “Therefore, we are creating our next star here by allowing you to connect with our diverse contestants and witness their journey,” he said in conclusion.
