The network opens up about Hallmark alums Candace Cameron Bure and Danica McKellar jumping ship to GAC Family.
Hallmark alum Candace Cameron Bure is best known for the Aurora Teagarden Mysteries and many Christmas movies. However, in April, she jumped ship from Hallmark Channel to GAC Family. At the time, it seemed like she was following in the footsteps of her co-star Danica McKellar, who made the move in October 2021. Meanwhile, other popular stars like Trevor Donovan Jen Lilley, and Jessica Lowndes have also moved to GAC Family. Hallmark was asked whether losing these stars had a negative effect.
Hallmark Channel – About Candace Cameron Bure And Danica McKellar Split
After both fan-favorite stars left for GAC Family, Hallmark was asked how losing Cameron Bure and McKellar affects the network. Hallmark executive Lisa Hamilton Daly recently opened up during a Television Critics Association press conference. Daly said they have kept a lot of their talent under options, with the exception of Christmas movies. Variety quotes her as saying:
We’ve kept a lot of our talent under options, save for Christmas movies. We’re looking for new talent all the time
I think there’s a lot of talent out there that we’ve worked with in the past that GAC is now working with.
Meanwhile, Daly added that she thinks they are also constantly trying to evolve the talent pool that they are working with. She said:
We have, I think, retained almost everybody that we’re really excited to have. So that’s where we are.
Hallmark – President & CEO Speaks Up On Departure
Meanwhile, Hallmark President and CEO Wonya Lucas added that the channel’s talent is also special due to their friendships, which are still intact despite recent departures. She said:
Our talent, they know each other. They have a great relationship and that’s the secret sauce we have as Hallmark.
Lucas confirmed that this continues today, saying they have existing talent that has been with them for a long time. Meanwhile, she added that they have new talent and that they all feel part of the Hallmark Channel love, adding that this will be consistent as it was in the past.
Cameron Bure And McKellar At GAC Family
Meanwhile, the two former Hallmark stars have signed contracts to star in and executive produce content for GAC Family and GAC Living. Moreover, Cameron Bure is set to also oversee and curate programming, including creating year-round seasonal TV shows and films.
However, in Danica’s case, she signed a contract through 2023. This means she could have the option of returning to Hallmark. It’s always wise to keep your eggs in more than one basket.
I cannot watch GAC channel while they run the pillow guys ads – someone who is in the traitors camp , who believes in a great lie – it does not ring true for a family channel.
