The Hallmark Channel just responded to a Ted Lasso call-out in the new holiday film, Christmas In Notting Hill. And the movie also contains other clever pop culture references.

Hallmark Film Features Ted Lasso Call-Out
The season for holiday films has arrived. But a new Hallmark Channel film, Christmas In Notting Hill, puts an unusual spin on the traditional formula. And it happens when the characters exchange words that reflect a scene in Ted Lasso season 3, noted People.
The Hallmark Channel holiday movie Christmas in Notting Hill features Sarah Ramos and William Moseley. And while it contains various pop culture references and cheeky scenes, the one about Ted Lasso has attracted the most attention. The scene serves as a direct reaction to the Apple TV+ show’s dialogue about Hallmark movies.
And in a season 3 episode of the show, Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) informs the team that their behavior seems “so inoffensive we might as well be a Hallmark Christmas movie.” But when the team appears confused, Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) requests a definition of a Hallmark Christmas movie.
Hallmark Christmas Films Best Seen ‘With Sound Off’
And Ted explains that he views Hallmark Christmas movies as “films that feature women from the big city falling in love with their childhood crushes. It’s usually some fella that owns a Christmas tree farm. Sometimes he’s also Santa Claus or a prince.”
However, Ted then adds, “They suck, but they’re great. But they also mostly suck, but they’re also kinda great. They’re good with the sound off.”
But Hallmark reacted to that cheeky exchange by using the dialogue in Christmas in Notting Hill. The movie features Moseley as a famous soccer player who falls for an American girl. And Ramos portrays Georgia as a sassy wit. Georgia’s father reveals that he devoted his time on a plane to London watching Ted Lasso.
And Graham teases that the show explores “exactly what it’s like to play professional football.” But Georgia responds, “Your coach is an American football coach turned soccer coach? With no prior experience? Who bakes biscuits and makes motivational signs? Is heavy on the folksy charm and still doesn’t know what offside is?” And the response keeps it simple: “Precisely. Minus the mustache.”
Hallmark Execs Add ‘Cheeky’ Ted Lasso Scene For Fun
But that exchange reflects Hallmark Channel execs viewing “Ted Lasso’s Hallmark Christmas movies reference. We just happened to be filming in London on a movie where our male lead was a professional football player,” explained Samantha DiPippo, senior vice president of development and programming at Hallmark Media. “We thought it would be fun to add in a few cheeky lines about Ted Lasso — all in good fun!”
And another pop culture reference features Georgia’s father reading a magazine. Take a closer look, and the magazine Horse and Hound reflects the publication Hugh Grant represented in order to interview Julia Roberts in the classic 1999 Notting Hill.
