Hallmark Reboots ‘Aurora Teagarden’ Movies After Candace Cameron Bure’s Exit

Hallmark Channel just revealed exciting news for fans who loved the Aurora Teagarden Mysteries movie franchise. Because Candace Cameron Bure left Hallmark, fans have wondered what would happen to the mystery films. But although Bure became known for portraying the heroine, Hallmark just announced its solution for re-inventing the series.

Hallmark Channel  Spoilers – Unveils Prequel For Popular Film Franchise

Ever since Candace Cameron Bure departed Hallmark, fans of the Aurora Teagarden Mysteries have speculated about how the network would continue the popular franchise. And now Hallmark unveiled the answer. A prequel film, Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Something New, will feature an almost completely new cast, reported ET.

Hallmark plans to begin filming on the prequel movie soon. And the cast includes Skyler Samuels (The Gabby Petito Story, The Gifted) in the role of young Aurora Teagarden. Evan Roderick (A Tale of Two Christmases, Autumn in the City) will portray  young Arthur Smith. And fan fave Marilu Henner, who played Aurora’s mother, Aida Teagarden, in the franchise, will return to her role.

Hallmark’s screenwriters set Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Something New during Aurora’s (Samuels) post-college days. Back home in Lawrenceton, Aurora finds a way to support herself. And while her mom Aida (Henner) tries to hold onto her new real estate business, Aurora works as a teacher’s assistant in a crime fiction class. 

In addition, she waitresses at the local diner at night. And Aurora enjoys sharing her fondness for researching true crime with her pal Sally and police officer, Arthur (Roderick). But when Sally’s fiancé goes missing at their wedding rehearsal, maid of honor Aurora turns to Arthur to help her search for him. However, a body turns up (NOT Sally’s delayed groom). And Sally’s fiancé becomes the prime suspect.

Hallmark Channel  Spoilers – Viewers Wanted ‘More Adventures With Aurora’

Because the Aurora Teagarden Mysteries series proved so popular, Hallmark sought a way to continue the franchise. And a prequel proved the perfect re-start. “Our viewers have been waiting for more adventures with Aurora and her friends. What better way to do that than to take them back to when the young, amateur sleuth was just coming into her own?” said Emily Merlin, Development Manager of Programming at Hallmark Media. “The Aurora Teagarden franchise is a fan favorite and we’re excited to share this new chapter with viewers.”

Based on novels and characters by Charlaine Harris, the Aurora Teagarden films date back to 2015. The first movie in the franchise, Aurora Teagarden: A Bone to Pick, proved an immediate hit. And the latest movie, the 18th in the series, Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Haunted by Murder, which debuted in February 2022, continued that popularity. Bure’s departure from Hallmark last April has opened the door for Hallmark exploring options for the franchise such as the upcoming prequel.
