Candace Cameron Bure – On the Stories She Wants To Tell Through Great American Family
For many years, Candace had been a part of the Hallmark family, introduced to the team by Bill Abbott after she took a 10-year hiatus from acting to raise her children.
However, when Bill Abbott left Hallmark Channel to establish his own rival channel, Candace decided to go with him to help make that dream a reality. Abbott also generously allowed her to create content under the “Candace Cameron Bure Presents” banner.
So far, they’ve got 18 all-new original movies to kick off the channel’s franchise. This year’s event, which will be held annually, kicked off on Friday, Oct. 21, with an original Christmas movie dropping every weekend.
During an interview with Wall Street Journal, the actress revealed the kind of content they’re focusing on at the time: “My heart wants to tell stories that have more meaning and purpose and depth behind them. I knew that the people behind Great American Family were Christians that love the Lord and wanted to promote faith programming and good family entertainment.”
In response to Candace’s claims that their content will support the Christian faith, Hallmark released a statement saying: “We want all viewers to see themselves in our programming and everyone is welcome.”
This year, Hallmark will be rolling out its first holiday film with an LGBTQ+ storyline titled “The Holiday Sitter”; a direction the Great American Family won’t be taking anytime soon per the statement by the “Full House” alum.
However, the CEO Bill Abbott told fans to keep an open mind, as there’s a great chance they could venture into unknown territories in the future. “It’s certainly the year 2022, so we’re aware of the trends. There’s no whiteboard that says, ‘Yes, this’ or ‘No, we’ll never go here.’”
Bure, nevertheless, confirmed that the movies she’s making won’t be “off-putting to the unbeliever or someone who shares a different faith.”
