Witt, 46, posted an image of her younger self with her parents on her Instagram. In her lengthy caption, she wrote that it still doesn’t feel real. She noted that it had been a month since she got scared, not having heard back from her parents. Alicia had called to have someone check on Robert and Diane.
The Hallmark star said she waited, with her phone in her hand, praying that the next call would be from her parents. She said she felt angry that she had gotten someone else involved in checking on them. Meanwhile, as soon as Alicia heard the detective’s voice on the other line, she knew they were gone.
Witt recalled that at that moment, she realized she would “never hear their voices again.” She added that she would have to spend the rest of her life “finding them on the breeze, in a song, in a dream.”
Hallmark News – About The Discovery Of Diane And Robert Witt
Alicia Witt’s parents, Diane and Robert, were found inside their home just days before Christmas. The discovery was made shortly after she asked a relative to perform a welfare check. Meanwhile, when police arrived at her parents’ house, they found no signs of noxious gases and no apparent trauma. However, later it was revealed that the freezing temperatures, plus a malfunctioning furnace could have been contributing factors in their passing.
At that time, temperatures had bottomed out at 15 degrees and while an official autopsy report has not yet been released, it was believed the pair had passed from hypothermia.
Hallmark News – Star Alicia Witt Cleared Up Details Of Her Parents’ Deaths
In Tuesday’s Instagram post, Alicia thanked her fans for their love and support during her family’s difficult time. She wrote that it is “very delicate” for her to write because she wants to honor her parents’ privacy, which they upheld so tightly. Witt said she never imagined she would have to talk about this publicly, much less “amidst overwhelming floods of grief.”
The Hallmark actress explained that her parents hadn’t “allowed” her inside their home for more than a decade. This was despite her offer to get things repaired in her home. In fact, Diane and Robert had refused workers to enter their home, despite Alicia’s pleas. They told her she had no right to tell them how to live their lives and that they had everything under control.
The former Walking Dead alum explained that her parents were “not penniless.” However, they were “fiercely stubborn, beautifully original souls, and with that, they made choices – choices that I couldn’t talk them out of.”
Meanwhile, despite her offers of help, Diane and Robert’s home continued to deteriorate, with the heater breaking down prior to winter 2021. Alicia explained that while she struggled to get them to accept help, the only thing she could have done is to petition the court system to get involved. In fact, Witt had no idea her parents’ heat was out and she doesn’t know why they never told her about this.
Witt directed readers to a similar Facebook post, where she wrote more about the sad event. She went on to say her heart is broken, wishing that she could have helped her parents, but they just wouldn’t accept any assistance. Meanwhile, she added that her parents had a “beautiful service and burial” in their hometown earlier in January. Witt went on to say her parents were “brilliant educators, deeply kind, curious, intuitive, wise, young at heart, funny.”
Alicia concluded by sharing that the last time she spoke to her parents, their last words to each other were “I love you.” She added, “That part was simple; never in doubt. They loved me so. I loved them so.”
