Hallmark To Feature First Lead Gay Wedding In The Groomsmen Trilogy

Hallmark Channel continues to be more inclusive in its latest movies and has taken one more step. It was recently reported that the network is releasing a new trilogy of movies, as the male version of The Wedding Veil trilogy.  

Starring Jonathan Bennett, Tyler Hynes and T.J. Britt, the movie will feature the feel-good network’s first lead gay wedding.

Some weeks ago, Hallmark made an announcement at the TCA Summer 2024 of the new, upcoming movie trilogy, The Groomsmen. Starring Jonathan Bennett, Tyler Hynes and T.J. Britt, the movie was filmed in Italy, Greece and Bulgaria, instantly making fans excited to see the filming locations. However, it was only this week that Bennett revealed something special about the new film.

Jonathan, 43, spoke to People about his new upcoming movies and shared that this will be the first Hallmark gay wedding as a lead storyline. Speaking at the San Diego Comic-Con, the Hallmark hunk shared details of his character, saying:

Playing the character of Danny in The Groomsmen – not only are we telling a story of friendship, and love, but … telling a story about a wedding.

Bennett explained how important this is, saying, “This is the first time we had a gay wedding on Hallmark as the lead storyline,” adding:

And that’s a huge move for the gay community so they can see themselves represented in these stories.

Right now, little information is available about the upcoming new Hallmark+ trilogy, The Groomsmen. So far, Hallmark has revealed that Jonathan’s character Danny is “an ex-jock with a heart of gold.”

Meanwhile, Tyler Hynes plays Jackson, a “stylish and charming social media agent.” Britt plays the role of Pete, “a kind-hearted pediatrician with a penchant for planning.”

The romantic trilogy takes place in three European countries, Greece, Italy and Bulgaria. Moreover, the three men are “of different backgrounds, cultures, and sexual orientations.”

“We got to shoot my character Danny’s storyline in Greece. And when you put me, Tyler Hynes, and B.J. Britt in Santorini, jumping off cliffs, it’s literally like paradise, and a dream come true because we got to film a gay love story in Santorini for Hallmark Channel,” Bennett added. He further revealed that the movie trilogy is everything that they love, saying:

We love destinations, we love friendship, we love romance, and we love Greece.

The trilogy is expected to premiere on the new Hallmark+ streaming channel sometime in mid-September.
