Hallmark star Jonathan Bennett surprises high school production of Mean Girls
While these days, Jonathan Bennett is famous for his Hallmark movies, in his checkered past he played Aaron Samuels, the high school heartbreaker in Mean Girls. Who can forget how Aaron caught the eye of Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) and Regina George (Rachel McAdams) some 19 years ago?
Meanwhile, Jonathan shared a video on Instagram and TikTok of a recent visit to a local high school. In the caption to his video he said that when the mother of their version of Aaron Samuels asked him to come to the dress rehearsal, he had to.
Bennett totally surprised the high school cast of Mean Girls ahead of their opening-night performance. He says in the video:
So the local high school’s doing Mean Girls, and tonight’s their dress rehearsal, so I’m gonna go surprise them. I was one of these theater kids in high school, so I’m excited to do this.

Bennett’s interaction with the young actors starts with a classic Mean Girls reference, “You guys, stop trying to make fetch happen,” adding, “It’s not going to happen.”
The young performers were clearly over the moon to see the original Aaron Samuels actor. Especially when he did the rounds of each performer, making teasing remarks. When shaking the hand of the teen playing Gretchen Wieners (Lacey Chabert in the movie), he says, “Oh, no, watch out for that one.” He then teased the actress playing Regina George, declaring her “even worse.”
However, the most emotional reaction in the video comes as Jonathan meets the actor playing his character, Aaron Samuels. The Hallmark star goes down on his knees and bows to the teen, who says, “Please, the honor is mine.”
Wise advice for teens ahead of dress rehearsal
Later in the TikTok video, Bennett offers the young cast advice, telling them, “You’re going to be great.” He then reassures the actress playing Cady, saying, “It’s not up to you to worry about what Lindsay did or what people on Broadway did. It’s about you doing what you want to do.”
