According to the official synopsis, it was the night before Christmas at Avery Quinn’s (Ricci) house when she was awoken to the sound of someone breaking in. She quietly creeps through the house to find out what the noise is about and spots a Santa-clad man (Macfarlane).

Avery jumps into action, tying him up tight with strings of Christmas lights, but he pleads for his freedom to be able to finish the night. In fact, the man in red claims to be Santa’s own son, Chris, who has to get going and finish his run. He said his dad will be angry and the kids will be sad to awaken in the morning to no gifts.

However, Avery, an aspiring news anchor, believes him to be the Santa Crook who has been on the news. For this reason, she is determined not to let him loose, thinking she will take him to the police to tell them the crook is caught. Meanwhile, solving this festive crime wave will boost her career. However, soon Avery and Chris have much to fear.

A series of mishaps see them taking flight from the police and the bad guys while searching all night. The pair go from place to place as Avery starts to break this big case. Avery and Chris work together to figure it out and soon Avery sees she has nothing to doubt. Chris is who he claims to be and slowly the pair bonds, with each helping the other to keep pressing on.

Will Avery’s news story make it to air, or will she be late and left in despair? Will Chris make his deadline and deliver all the gifts, or will this Christmas be one that gets missed?
