Jonathan opened up to People as the official host of the Times Square New Year’s Eve Celebration in partnership with KAY Jewelers. Bennett, 42, said he pretty much “blacked out” during the ceremony. However, it was the slow dance with Jaymes at their reception that is and always will be his favorite memory.

What made the dance particularly special was that they waltzed around the room to Our Song, an original song written, sung and recorded by Vaughan for their engagement. The moment of Bennett’s proposal was shared as a video with People, where he said the proposal was a total surprise. Jonathan said:

My adrenaline was pumping so hard, but being at the reception and getting to dance our first dance to ‘Our Song’ was unforgettable.

The Mean Girls actor explained that they got to slow dance to Jaymes’ song and he got to hear his husband sing it. Following that lovely moment, there were fireworks and all their friends and family were around them, saying:

It was a moment that looked like a Hallmark movie that I’m in. So it was like for the first time I was living my actual Hallmark movie fantasy.

For his part, Jaymes, 40, said that watching Jonathan live out his real-life Hallmark dream in their dance made him emotional.

“It was really special because I go on set and see him at a lot of his movies. Now it felt like I got to live in one,” the TV show host said. “There was a point in the wedding where I grabbed him and was like, ‘Baby, this feels like I’m on one of your sets, but this is real.’”

Jaymes went on to say that while he loved sharing the first dance with Jonathan, his favorite wedding moment was hearing his husband’s vows. He explained that heading for the wedding, his friends convinced him that his fiancé’s vows would be silly and funny. For this reason, his friends convinced him to let Bennett give his vows first.

Vaughan said Jonathan started by singing a couple of lines from For Good from Wicked, his favorite musical. “I was like, ‘Oh, these are sweet and this is how Jonathan’s expressing himself. My baby is doing exactly what I expected. I love it.”

But then he went into these the most gorgeous vows that I’ve ever heard,” he continues. “I was an absolute wreck. I had no idea, to be honest, that he was capable of writing something like that, although I should have known based on some of the Hallmark movies he’s created, but I didn’t know he had those words in him.

Jaymes explained that after hearing Jonathan’s words, he was a wreck and when it came time to give his vows, he could barely speak.

“I didn’t think I was going to be that emotional, but his words made me so emotional,” Vaughan recalls.

Jaymes added that looking back, this surprise on the day when professing your love for each other in front of everyone to hear, to have him say those words and be surprised, was truly special and “sticks out in my head still to this day.”

Meanwhile, Bennett made a post on Instagram about hosting the Times Square New Year’s Eve, writing: “I’m so thrilled to be back as the official host of Times Square New Year’s Eve! Our LIVE broadcast starts at 6 pm EST at TSQ.org- stream along with us and ring in 2024!”
