According to the official synopsis, a generations-old feud that has divided a small town may finally be settled once and for all when Schuyler Fisk (Sam & Kate, Orange County), Genevieve Angelson (The Handmaid’s Tale, Good Girls Revolt), Lea Thompson (Switched at Birth, Back to the Future) and Wendie Malick (Young Sheldon, Shrinking, Just Shoot Me!) star in Hallmark’s all-new original series The Chicken Sisters.
Meanwhile, James Kot (Christmas on Cherry Lane, Virgin River), Rukiya Bernard (Yellowjackets, One Winter Wedding), Ektor Rivera (Groundswell, Sugar Plum Twist) and Jake Foy (Allegiance, Ride) round out the cast, while Margo Martindale (American Crime Story, Cocaine Bear, Justified) lends her voice as the Narrator.
What happens in the first episode ‘I Walk The Line’?
After marrying into the family that runs Frannie’s, Amanda Moore Hillier’s (Fisk) relationship with her mom, Augusta “Gus” Moore (Malick), who runs Mimi’s, has been as cold as a frog’s tail. Meanwhile, Nancy Hillier (Thompson) is happy to have Amanda by her side along with Nancy’s son, Frank Jr. (Kot), and thinks of her as the daughter she never had.
Amanda learns that the cooking competition show Ultimate Kitchen Clash is looking for restaurant rivals to vie for the $100,000 prize, and impulsively submits Frannie’s and Mimi’s.
However, when host Sabrina Skye (Bernard) calls to tell her the good news that the show is coming to Merinac, Amanda is stunned and panicked. She has no idea how to get her mom on board. Meanwhile, Gus ultimately agrees, but only if Mae (Angelson), Amanda’s sister who flew the coop years earlier for the bright lights of New York, returns to help.
While Mae initially balks at the idea, an unexpected professional pitfall makes her do an abrupt about-face. She turns up in Merinac after having vowed never to return and brings her big-city swagger along with her. This immediately ruffles Amanda’s feathers, With both the sisters back in the same town with childhood baggage bubbling back up, they are ready to face off.
