Hallmark star Luke Macfarlane opens up about his latest roles
Speaking to Hollywood Reporter, Luke Macfarlane opened up on a number of movie roles, one of which will thrill fans of Hallmark’s Christmas movies. While he had recently said that he had starred in his last Hallmark movie, it seems the network got him to change his mind.
Speaking on taking a new Christmas movie, he joked, saying he wanted to remain the king of the genre on Hallmark. When asked how different Hallmark sets are, he opened up, saying, “All sets are different.” He explained that he is so grateful for his career, saying:
I’ve done everything from a period drama to a sci-fi show to these Hallmark films, and they’re all different. That’s part of the fun of being an actor is like, ‘How does this thing work?’ What’s been always fun about the Hallmark movies is how much leeway they give you and the pace.
Macfarlane continued, saying, “Talk about learning on the job. You gotta know what you’re doing when you show up because there is not a lot of time. We shoot them in 15 days, and they tend to overshoot so that they have their bases covered.”
Actor turns down a role in Barbie
After auditioning for a “small part in Barbie, Luke was offered a role, starring opposite Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. He got an email from Nick Stoller, the Bros and Platonic director, telling him that he would be really great in this part. However, the timing was off as he was busy with another project. Luke said that while they tried to make it work, he had to pass on Barbie, which he was “one of those brutal things.”
Luke Macfarlane on Bros
Macfarlane explained that he was disappointed that Bros didn’t do better in theaters, saying:
But it’s OK. I really felt super proud about the movie. I can’t think of anything that I felt was a big mistake in making it, so it’s disappointing,” he explained. “Billy is so, so, so talented, so funny, so creative, has such a big heart. So it’s disappointing, but this is a business. And I think people are gonna find it.
The Hallmark actor went on to explain that a guy came up to him in the gym the other day, telling him his 17-year-old son was watching Bros. He instantly said to himself “I know that guy” and, of course, he knew Luke from the gym. The man said he sat down with his son and watched Bros, adding that maybe other people will discover it that way. Macfarlane added:
There’s a long tradition of films that don’t kill it in the box office but stand the test of time, and I believe Bros will be like that.
