Hallmark Hunk Luke Macfarlane is clearly excited about his new unscripted Hallmark renovation series, Home is Where the Heart Is. Set to debut on Hallmark+ during March, Luke has already told Variety that viewers will see him “get really sweaty” every week.

Hallmark has revealed that the new unscripted show will debut on March 20, when fans will get to watch the first two episodes. Luke, who returned to making Hallmark rom-coms in 2023, is looking forward to this. After having taken a year-long break from the network, he told Variety that he isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty on the show.

It turns out that the Hallmark actor is also an accomplished woodworker. He and talented designer, Olivia Westbrooks, will work together in each episode to help a family renovate a “once glorious house that has either been inherited or holds a special meaning to them but is long overdue for some TLC,” according to a press release.

Even though Macfarlane is one of the show’s executive producers, he won’t be appearing as a slick host, as he wants to get his hands dirty and break a sweat. He told Variety:

I’ve always been a builder and a maker, and woodworking is my sort of material, but a very articulate, well-dressed man telling you what’s good and bad is not something that I am interested in.

“I think we have a lot of wonderful examples on television of that,” he added, joking that some home improvement hosts put on a “renovation drag performance.”

I understand why it happens – making TV is hard and there’s not a lot of time. To get really sweaty is not always the cutest thing, but I was committed to that, especially knowing that this was the space that I wanted to sort of introduce myself into.

As a lover of woodworking, Luke stays relatively quiet when it comes to social media, but does, occasionally, share projects he is working on in his home workshop. One example is the beautiful crib he made for his newborn daughter, Tess, who he shares with his longtime partner, Hig Roberts.

Meanwhile, Macfarlane said he has crafted a special, meaningful heirloom for each family. Which is a lovely touch. He explained:

The process of getting to know somebody by drawing them out is always so much deeper and so much more satisfying than the process of telling somebody what they should or shouldn’t know.

Home Is Where the Heart Is premieres on Hallmark+ on March 20, with two episodes. New episodes will then air each Thursday.
