Alicia WittHallmark actress Alicia Witt’s parents, Robert and Diane Witt were found mysteriously dead in their Worcester, Massachusetts, home on the night of December 20. Since that time, police have learned that both parents were suffering from chronic illnesses. However, while awaiting the medical examiner’s report, officials are theorizing that the cause of their sad passing could be hypothermia.

Cause Of Sad Death Of Alicia Witt’s Parents

After Hallmark actress Alicia Witt’s parents were found dead on December 20, an autopsy is still being performed. Once the autopsy is complete, the medical examiner will release the official cause of death of Robert, 87, and Diane Witt, 75.

However, as reported by Boston 25 News, authorities believe that hypothermia could have been the cause of death. Reportedly one of Witt’s parents was wearing a coat inside their home where they were found to be dead.

According to police, there were problems with the furnace in the Witt home and the couple had been using a space heater for warmth. However, as advised by Worcester Fire Deputy Chief Adam Roche, there were no signs of carbon monoxide in the home. Roche said they had used a meter in the home and all air readings were normal.

Boston 25 quoted neighbors as saying they hadn’t heard about any heating issues in the Witt household and that they had seen an oil truck making a delivery recently, prior to the couple’s death.

‘No signs Of Foul Play’

The Boston Herald quotes Lieutenant Sean Murtha of the Worcester Police as saying, “I can confirm that police were dispatched to the residence and discovered a male and a female deceased. There were no signs of foul play. It is under investigation.”

One neighbor told the Boston Herald that the Witt’s home was in a “terrible condition.” Asking to not be named, she said “If people put pieces of furniture out on the curb, she [Diane Witt] would take it. She just seemed to think that everything had value.”

The neighbor added that a wellness check by a Witt family member, where the couple was found to be dead, was the second wellness check on the couple in recent days. She added that another check was also done during the year after a neighbor was concerned and asked the police to check up on them.

Speaking of Diane Witt, the neighbor said she suffered from Parkinson’s disease and was “very frail.” Referring to how thin she was, the neighbor added, “A strong wind could have blown her over,” and that she couldn’t have weighed more than 90 pounds and was getting even thinner. She added that Robert Witt was suffering from cancer and was at one stage traveling to Boston for treatment.

About Robert And Diane Witt

According to the neighbor, Robert and Diane were retired high school teachers and they sometimes came over to her home to watch their daughter Alicia’s movies, as they didn’t have a color TV. She added that she had asked the Witts about moving into an assisted living center, or getting help from a local senior center, but Diane wasn’t interested.

The neighbor also said that Alicia had bought her parents a station wagon, but that it “mainly sat in the driveway” as they rarely used it. Reportedly, whenever they were in town, their daughter would send a car to collect her parents so they could spend time together.

Speaking in a statement to Telegram & Gazette, Alicia Witt explained that she had reached out to a cousin who lives close to her parents to check on them.

“Sadly, the outcome was unimaginable. I ask for some privacy at this time to grieve and to wrap my head around this turn of events, and this surreal loss,” she added.
