General Hospital Alum Ryan Paevey Opens Up About Hallmark Channel’s Movie ‘Equations’

While many Hallmark Channel stars have jumped ship to join GAC Family, General Hospital alum Ryan Paevey has shown he isn’t going anywhere. In fact, along with other Hallmark stars, the actor has recently signed a multi-picture deal with Crown Media Family Networks. Paevey was recently interviewed by TV Insider about how Hallmark’s changing movie “equations.”

Hallmark Channel star Ryan Paevey and the network’s evolution

Who can forget the fact that Ryan Paevey played Detective Nathan West on the medical soap, General Hospital from 2013 until 2018? Since that time, Paevey has been regularly starring in Hallmark movies, including the most recent Two Tickets To Paradise which debuted over the weekend.

After his six years with the network, Ryan spoke to TV Insider about Hallmark’s evolution and its changing environments. He said it is rare to find a place like Hallmark that consistently serves up “feel-good stuff.” Paevey did mention that they get accused of being a “little repetitive,” and the “powers that be” know that. However, he said the storylines and movie equations are starting to change and becoming more inclusive.

A broader range of content on Hallmark

In fact, Ryan said that the network is now embracing a broader range of content and subject matter to reflect real life. He added that:

The core of it is still the same. The stuff we have you should be able to smile a little wider after watching.

As fans of the Hallmark Channel know, there is never a shortage of new, original movies on the network, even though some may have similar storylines. However, as Ryan pointed out, this means there is a consistent supply of “feel-good” programming. Meanwhile, this doesn’t mean that Hallmark isn’t evolving with the times.

Hallmark made some waves back in 2020 in the LGBTQ community after airing its first same-sex wedding scene. More recently, the channel aired its first LGBTQ-related Christmas movie, The Christmas House, starring Jonathan Bennett.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, Hallmark Movies & Mysteries debuted Color My World With Love, the lead actors of which both have Down syndrome.

Ryan Paevey and Two Tickets to Paradise

Paevey was also asked about his latest movie, Two Tickets to Paradise which premiered over the past weekend. Ryan said the structure of the movie is different. He said they shot the movie in Hawaii, so the location is going to be beautiful. Paevey joked that if you don’t like him and Ashley Williams (his co-star) there is a nice background to watch.

Saying the movie is activity-heavy, he pointed out that they went kayaking, there was a three-legged race, and he “got to surf.” According to Ryan, he told them not to hire a double for his surfing scenes, as he would do it.

I grew up surfing. You cannot bring me out to Hawaii for six weeks and expect me not to get in the water.

Readers, if you missed Two Tickets To Paradise the first time around, keep an eye on Hallmark’s schedule to find out encore dates for the movie.
