In tonight’s The Chicken Sisters episode, Gus has always been the talk of the town. It started with her first pregnancy. People judged her for being an unwed mother.
It made Gus realize that men were more trouble than they were worth. She became even more sure after her second pregnancy and so she decided to write off men completely.

Her daughters grew up. They moved out. It gave Gus the additional room to live her hoarder’s lifestyle. She was making peace with her life alone until she had problems with her oven at Mimi’s. Kenneth and Patrick stepped in to help.
They also introduced her to Sergio. Somehow these three men became staples in Gus’s life. She spends most of her time with them. She laughs with them. They sided with her over her daughters and she defended her daughters because she knew that her friends didn’t see everything.
They didn’t see her home. Or the piles of junk she had everywhere. They knew she was eccentric. They knew she needed help with her restaurant. They also knew that she loved her kids and that she had secrets.
They never pried. Or asked her about the doctor’s visits. Gus did her best to hide those and it still became the talk of the town. There were plenty that noticed the doctor was visiting her at Mimi’s. It often happened late at night and it led people to believe they were having an affair.
They didn’t know Gus like the people closest to her. Gus was no homewrecker. She threw out one baby daddy after she found out he was married. She wouldn’t knowingly sleep with a married man. She was getting something else from the doctor.

Gus was receiving some acupuncture. It helped with the stress. It also helped with the pain she’s been feeling through her body. Gus was receiving private medical attention because she didn’t want everyone to talk about it. Well, people are still talking about it.
Mae tried to shut it down. It just didn’t last for long because Kitchen Clah was dredging everything back up. The reality show had an episode this week that was the men’s battle. The men from both kitchens got to take part in a cook off.
Frank Jr. had his mother as well as his wife to help. Sergio could see that Gus was struggling and so he roped in Mae. Me did the prep work. She thought it would help with Gus. It didn’t. Gus still hasn’t forgiven her. Gus was the type to hold a grudge. She struggled with letting people in.
She was too busy keeping them out. She made another appointment with the doctor and she was doing that while Mae was helping Sergio. The doctor tried to convince her to come to the office. She once again turned him down.
Gus got help. She showed up for the men’s battle where the men got a little too dramatic for tv. They were told to switch kitchens after they did all that prep and so they had to come up with a recipe with whatever the other competitor stocked in his fridge.
Frank Jr. struggled at first. He needed a pep talk. His mother tried and he’d prefer it to listen to the self-help bros tape in his car. He also trash talked Sergio whenever he could. His fried green tomatoes won him a vote. It just didn’t win the competition.
Sergio won with his hush puppies. He had the chance to trash talk Frank Jr. back and he didn’t. Nor did he ever once bring up what happened with Amanda. Not even after things crossed a line with Frank Jr. Frank Jr. blamed his mother for losing the competition.
He was talking down to her because she didn’t help him and that’s why he didn’t win. He was a big baby. A sore loser that one. He took issue with Sergio when Sergio told him not to talk to his mother that way. They got in each other’s faces. Frank Jr. threw the first punch.
Sergio never got to return fire because Gus looked out for him. She pulled him away. Nancy did her best to stop the cameras from covering the fight and Sabrina told her cameraman to film everything. It lost what little ground she gained with her daughter.
Linzey didn’t like her mom taking advantage of other people’s pain and embarrassment. Sarbina was so busy filming the drama that she didn’t notice that Linzey pulled Frankie off. The two girls have become friends. They were confiding in each other.
Frankie told Linzey that she was auditioning for a school in New York City. She was going to stay with her Aunt Mae for the audition. She also mentioned that if she did get in that she couldn’t wait to leave town. Linzey was so excited about showing her new friend around the city that she confided in her mother about it. Sabrina thought Amanda already knew and so she spilled the beans.
Amanda got so upset. She confronted Mae. She accused Mae of trying to steal her daughter away. The two of them traded insults. They both accused the other of being like Gus.
Sergio had to break up the argument. Amanda wasn’t really angry with Mae anyways. She was upset that her daughter didn’t talk to her about this.
Frankie wanted to move to a big city. She wanted to become an actress. She wanted adventures and Amanda couldn’t understand that because she wasn’t one for risks. Amanda later spoke to her daughter. She was afraid of Frankie getting hurt by moving so far away. And Frankie knew that pursuing acting was taking a risk, but she was brave enough to try.
Something her mother never was. Frankie didn’t tell her mom about the audition. She was worried that her mom might hate for moving away and Amanda said she could never hurt her. She said they were family. She has unconditional love in her heart for her daughter.
Frankie was her world after all. Frankie then pointed out that Mae and Gus were family too and there was no unconditional love there. She gave her mom the kick she needed. Amanda went over to check on her mom afterwards. She saw Gus limping away after the men’s battle.
Amanda knocked. Gus never answered. Gus couldn’t let Amanda see the state of the house. Amanda saw that Sergio was still at Mimi’s. She stopped by and she apologized.
She felt she forced that kiss on him. She also thought the kiss must have sucked. She’s only ever kissed one person her whole life. Sergio has more experience. He wasn’t from their small town. He was probably going to pick up and move on whenever he wanted. She had been wrong about that because Sergio later showed her that he was moving to the town permanently.
Sergio was having a house built. He wasn’t simply passing through. He loves his friends and working at Mimi’s. He also really liked that kiss. Sergio was everything Amanda ever wanted. Amanda couldn’t help develop feelings for him. She kissed him again tonight.
It helps that there was no one to catch them or make Amanda run away in shame. Amanda was unhappy in her marriage. She wasn’t in love with Frank Jr. She might be able to fall in love with Sergio. Maybe this will be the push she needs to finally leave someone.
Plus, Frank Jr. was no prize. The only person he truly loves is his daughter. He treats all other women disrespectfully and it turns out he was just like his daddy. Frank Sr. lied to Nancy. He told her that Gus seduced him when she hadn’t. Gus knew he was in a relationship with someone else.
She also would never have touched the man because she found him completely repulsive. Frank Sr. loved bragging to Gus about one day shutting down Mimi’s. Frannie’s was more popular at the time. He thought he had the bank and town on his side.
Knowing how his son turned out, Frank Sr. was probably hoping to get Gus to sleep with him. He then turned it around after a rejection and tried to destroy the only thing she had left when she rejected him.
Gus admitted she never seduced him to Nancy. Nancy went for years believing that her husband was unfaithful while they were dating. She chose to forgive him back then because she loved him. Then he asked her to marry him the next day. They created a family and, to her credit, Nancy never once hated Amanda for what she thought Gus did with her then boyfriend.
Just for it all to be a lie. Nancy went home and she took off her wedding rings. There’s no telling if she’ll ever wear them again. Her husband threw away a good thing.
The same way her son was doing so with his wife. Frank Jr. called the Health Inspector on Gus’s private home. Amanda might have revealed a few things to him that he was now using against her mother. Gus was bound to fail that inspection.
And Mae realized something about herself. She realized that she never allowed anyone to know the full her. Both the old her and the new her. It’s why her fiancé was upset to find out she kept so many secrets and yet in spite of that he still showed up in Merinac ready to talk.
THE END!
