In an interview on The Drew Barrymore Show, Andie MacDowell, 65, was asked whether she was dating.  The twice-divorced Maid star said she has lost interest in dating. In fact, she said that “people finally gave up” asking her about it.

In the show, which aired on January 24, 2024, MacDowell said, “There’s nothing wrong with being single.” Moreover, she added that she would rather cultivate her female friendships and that most of the men in her life were gay – for a reason.

Meanwhile, during the interview, both Barrymore, 48, and MacDowell both declared that they are “so single.”

Andie agreed with Drew, saying, “Yeah, but you need to date. I don’t.”

However, despite this, Barrymore pushed MacDowell to explain why she avoids a relationship, to which she replied:

You’re young, you know? You should do it now, ’cause you get older, you just care less, I hate to tell you.

According to Today, MacDowell has married twice, first to the former model Paul Qualley between 1986 and 1999, where they share three grown children – daughters Margaret, 29, and Rainey, 34, and a son, Paul, 38. From 2001 to 2004, Andie was married to businessman Rhett Hartzog which also didn’t work out.

Since her second divorce, MacDowell has fielded many questions about her love life and she even agreed to try a dating app in 2023. However, having been on her own for so long, most people have, apparently, stopped asking.

The actress told Drew that she got really tired of it as everyone would ask her, “So, is there a man?” MacDowell said after “years and years,” people have finally stopped asking, which she is pleased about.

MacDowell told Barrymore: “You know, we’ve had such evolution as human beings,” adding “I do think that there is nothing wrong with being single. Really. I have great female friends, and I have some male friends that I like, too.”

Moreover, when Drew pressed her on whether men and women can truly be friends, MacDowell said she thinks so, “at a certain age.” Meanwhile, she noted that almost all of her friends are women or gay men.

“I love a gay man,” MacDowell added. “I try really hard to have as many gay men in my life as I can. ‘Cause they’re still men, but you know, you don’t have to worry about that (sexual) component. There’s none of that sort of masculine… whatever happens.”

She added that a gay man nurtures you, which she loves.

While the Four Weddings and a Funeral star isn’t looking for love, her matriarchal character on The Way Home is. There was a brief romance for Del Landry in the first season. Moreover, another romance is coming in season 2, which premiered on January 21.

MacDowell said this year, there is another man in the series and her character does something that is “so out of the box” for someone her age, but she wouldn’t say exactly what it is, adding:

It’s a little risky for Hallmark but it’s not going to upset anybody. I love it because it allowed me as a 65-year-old woman to portray someone vital, strong and powerful. I was proud of these writers for giving me that opportunity.

In a first for Hallmark Channel, Andie may have been referring to an almost nude skinny dipping scene that is coming in the second season. She told Today:

I have on my underwear, but I thought it was pretty brave for Hallmark to do, or anybody, (with) a 65-year-old woman. And I loved how I played it.

Readers can watch The Way Home on Sunday nights at 9 pm ET/PT on Hallmark Channel. In the meantime, watch the interview between Drew Barrymore and Andie MacDowell below.
