‘Twas the Night Before Christmas on Hallmark Channel
According to the official press release, ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas was inspired by the Troy, NY, tradition and based on the play, The Trial Before Christmas. The movie tells the story of Madison Rush (Torrey DeVitto), an actress who, despite working for decades, is best known for an early catchphrase she would rather forget.
Seeking to broaden her career, Madison sees an opportunity to direct a play in Troy, New York, as the perfect way to prove her skills. Meanwhile, part play and part mock trial, the story features two lawyers debating whether “A Visit from Saint Nick” was authored by Clement Clark Moore, or Henry Livingstone Jr. and asks the audience to decide as a jury.
Madison casts an old costar, Connor Avery (Zane Holtz), who is struggling to balance time for acting and his young daughter, Josie Avery (Morgan Saunders). Meanwhile, despite feeling a spark with Connor, Madison has a rule to never date an actor. Also joining the play is two of the town’s overzealous Moore and Livingston cosplayers. In fact, they are remarkably convincing when they can be found.
They are remarkably convincing – when they can be found. Less convincing is Madison’s lead actress, Lena DeLorean (Sophie Bastelle), whose only qualifications appear to be hand modeling, as well as the fact that she is the producer’s girlfriend.
Madison soon becomes concerned that her first foray into directing will end up a flop. However, perhaps with determination, the support from the town and from Connor, she might find a way to make it all work.
