When Calls the Heart fans were left dropped-jaw during the dramatic finale to season 10, leading to concern over Chris McNally’s future. Erin Krakow, who plays Elizabeth Thornton in the Hallmark series, has opened up about that finale and what is happening with her relationship with Lucas (McNally). Meanwhile, she also reassures us about what the cliffhanger means for season 11.
WCTH star Erin Krakow and the season 10 finale
Hearties will recall that season 10 saw Elizabeth (Krakow) growing distant from Lucas despite accepting his marriage proposal. The thing is, if Lucas wins his run for governor, this would mean him leaving Hope Valley and Elizabeth. Meanwhile, in the penultimate episode, Elizabeth decides to call off the engagement, ending the relationship.
What we saw in the season finale was Lucas being elected governor, with Elizabeth by his side for support. However, later, fans saw a mysterious figure pulling up in a car to confront Lucas. The final moments of the finale saw Bill (Jack Wagner) interrupting Elizabeth and Nathan and telling them that Lucas urgently needs help.
Is Chris McNally’s character being written out?
Many fans were upset, wondering if this was a way of killing McNally’s character off, but thank goodness, this isn’t the case. Krakow told ET Online that we’re “not gonna lose Chris McNally,” adding, “I mean, he’s fantastic. I can’t imagine that. Our show just grew and changed when we brought in Kevin and Chris.
Erin assured Hearties that the questions raised by the season 10 cliffhanger will be answered early in season 11, saying:
I can say that the good news is that those questions will be answered. And pretty much right away, so we’re not gonna have to wait too long in season 11 to get those answers.
Meanwhile, Krakow did warn that “the Nathan and Elizabeth journey may be a bit slower,” adding, “but we will be dropping hints as much as we can.”
On the subject of her character’s breakup with Lucas and that lingering connection with Nathan, Erin said:
And then I think that there is just maybe something happening in Elizabeth’s heart that she can’t quite deny as much as she once tried.
Moreover, Krakow did acknowledge that some fans might be disappointed with the end of Elizabeth’s romance with Lucas. “It may be tough on some of our fans, but what I really appreciate about it is it’s a story of two people who still have a very deep love for one another.” She added:
I think that they were just being true to what was in their hearts, and you can’t argue with that,” she continued. “They are being true to their authentic self, so, I mean, I think it was the right move.
Hearties will have to be patient, as so far, there is no confirmed release date for When Calls the Heart season 11.
