Hallmark Channel’s Sugarplummed debuts tonight at 8/7c and it’s a holiday movie that swerves sweetly and in a good way, from the syrupy, stereotypical formula fans have come to expect. The rom-com stars Maggie Lawson from Psych and Janel Parrish from Pretty Little Liars. All in all, Sugarplummed is a delightful, fun movie that doesn’t disappoint.
Hallmark Channel’s Sugarplummed Holiday Movie
Which is not to say that we don’t love Hallmark’s holiday fare—what would the season be without it? Some viewers wait all year to sample the channel’s delicious holiday offerings and we’re one of them!
But now and then Hallmark puts out a unique movie, one that strays from the expected formulaic magic, and Sugarplummed is definitely in this category. The movie is firmly family-oriented, so no worries there.
Likewise, the characters learn important lessons, there’s plenty of sugary snow and gingerbread houses, Christmas trees are decorated, relationships are healed, and plenty of cookies are baked.
Hallmark Channel – Sugarplummed is Hallmark Alt
Here’s what you need to know without giving away too much of the premise. Heroine Emily (Maggie Lawson) is a lawyer who wants the perfect Christmas, one just like the ones found in the “Sugarplum” movies she watches. Who doesn’t want the perfect Christmas?!
But Emily is stunned when Sugarplum (Janel Parrish) herself pops up, ready to help her fulfill her wish.
The charming movie revolves around Emily, a harried woman who desperately wants to provide the perfect Christmas for her two kids and husband.
Hallmark Channel -Sugarplummed Is A Surprise
Despite Emily’s best intentions, things go south before the ship is righted, courtesy of Sugarplum. Sugarplum is a character that has her own series of picture-perfect movies that Emily watches on a channel that sounds an awful lot like Hallmark.
The fun gets going when Sugarplum exits the fictional holiday movie world and steps into Emily’s busy, busy, busy real life.
Hallmark Channel – Sugarplummed Is Surprising Hallmark Fare
The action gets traction when Sugarplum guides Emily and helps her to see the real meaning and value of the holiday.
Although the movie retains all of the feel-good moments viewers have come to expect from the Hallmark channel, it hits with a twist not often experienced in typical seasonal movies.
Yes, Emily learns to look beyond the glittering surface and dig deeper. But in the process we think you will be pleasantly surprised at the depth displayed in this holiday rom-com. So grab some popcorn, apple cider, and get set for a pleasing adventure.
