When Calls The Heart (WCTH) star Erin Krakow (Elizabeth Thornton) knows that some fans felt disappointed in that season 10 cliffhanger finale. But Erin just explained the reasoning behind her character Elizabeth’s actions.
And the WCTH star also addressed those rumors about Chris McNally (Lucas) leaving. Keep reading to learn more.
When Calls The Heart – Season 10 Was ‘Tough On Fans’
Erin Krakow knows everything possible about her Hallmark Channel’s When Calls The Heart (WCTH) character Elizabeth Thornton. But Erin also understands why some fans felt upset about the recent season 10 ending. And so the When Calls The Heart star offered her insights on that cliffhanger finale episode to ET.
The biggest plot twist in season 10 of When Calls the Heart began when Elizabeth Thornton (Erin Krakow) finally realized how she really felt about her engagement to Lucas (Chris McNally). And she she ended her engagement amid the campaign for governor in Capital City.
But after Lucas earned that coveted governor office, an unidentified person seemed to threaten him. And that led to an interruption just as Elizabeth and Nathan (Kevin McGarry) seemed on the verge of connecting. However, the end of one romance and the hint of another left fans with questions.
And Krakow defended what happened. “I think it’s a really good authentic, challenging, emotional story. And it may be tough on some of our fans,” she admitted. “But what I really appreciate about it is it’s a story of two people who still have a very deep love for one another.”

When Calls The Heart – Elizabeth Thornton Made The ‘Right Move’
And Erin also reflected on Elizabeth’s reasons for breaking up with Lucas. “I think that they were just being true to what was in their hearts,” she stated. “And you can’t argue with that. They are being true to their authentic self, so, I mean, I think it was the right move.”
Krakow serves as both co-executive producer for and star of When Calls The Heart. And in those roles, she noted that Lucas and Elizabeth differed dramatically in what they wanted for their futures. For instance, Erin feels that Lucas “always had these big dreams and grand gestures.” As a result, Lucas longed “to surprise Elizabeth with a house on a hill somewhere.”
But in contrast, Elizabeth just wanted to stay in her home. And she also loved feeling “close to her community.” However, Lucas’ goals in politics made him feel enthusiastic “about moving to the big city and making these changes for the town, for the community,” pointed out Erin.
WCTH Spoilers – Will Chris McNally Leave?
But “Elizabeth doesn’t really share those dreams,” Krakow added. “That is totally OK, because they can be individuals who still really care about each other but aren’t necessarily meant to be together forever. And then I think that there is just maybe something happening in Elizabeth’s heart that she can’t quite deny as much as she once tried,” Krakow commented about her emotional response to Nathan.
However, Erin also addressed those rumors about Chris McNally leaving WCTH. And though season 10 showed Lucas in danger as well as in a new political role, fans can relax. And Erin promised, “We’re not gonna lose Chris McNally. I mean, he’s fantastic. I can’t imagine that. Our show just grew and changed when we brought in Kevin and Chris.”
