When Calls The Heart – Why Was Jack Thorton Written Out Of When Calls the Heart?

Fans were heartbroken that Jack, played by actor Daniel Lissing, was leaving the show and wanted to know why. It turns out that while contracts were being renegotiated, Lissing decided to move on. This led to Jack being written out of the series.

When Daniel chose to leave the show, this left the showrunners with a problem. They had to work out how to deal with this major change in the storyline. They discussed recasting the role of Jack, but soon shot down the idea. They believed that Lissing and his co-star Erin Krakow had such incredible chemistry, it would be hard to find the perfect match.

They also discussed the possibility of Jack breaking up with Elizabeth, but soon decided this would be too out of character for Thornton. The only way out was to allow the character to die in order to let Lissing leave.

Lissing says he left When Calls the Heart on amicable terms and is still on good terms with Hallmark. Daniel spoke about it in a YouTube video posted by his former co-star, Paul Greene (Dr. Carson Shepherd). He revealed he left the series as he wanted to change paths. Daniel did admit his decision was a very difficult one, as he knew he had no guarantee of landing another such prominent role.

However, he did explain what he wants to do and has no regrets. Lissing said he was grateful that he had the opportunity of being part of the show. However, he admitted that if he had returned to film season 6, he might have never met his wife Nadia, so maybe it was fate?

The talented actor has gone on to star in a number of TV shows, including Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce, The Rookie and Eye Candy. Lissing has also stayed a part of the Hallmark family, by starring in the films, A December Bride and Christmas in Love. Right now, Daniel is working on a pilot for a new series, The Cleaning Lady, so he didn’t need to be too concerned over finding another prominent role.

When Calls The Heart Spoilers – Grateful For The opportunity

As reported by The Cinemaholic, Lissing is grateful for the opportunity of playing the role in When Calls the Heart. He has often said how much he misses filming in Vancouver with his former cast members. However, fans will be pleased to know that Daniel will be happy to feature in the series again if the opportunity arises.

During his conversation with Greene, Lissing said, “I loved playing Jack. I really, really did. If there was ever an opportunity to do anything again, I would not be opposed to it.” So, Hearties mustn’t give up on their hopes of seeing him again. You never know!

I do hope that Daniel will come back as Jack on One Calls the Heart. I do understand that this was his choice to leave but happy to hear that he would like to return if that works out at some point. He is a talented actor and sure had chemistry with the wonderful actress playing Elizabeth. I loved all the story lines on the series. I am sorry to hear that our Canadian shows are not bringing back One Calls The Heart but I see that we can still watch it on You Tube. Very disappointed that the series is not to be continued in Canada.
