He has a long road to recovery and this happened during the COVID-19 pandemic. Plus, medical expenses are astounding. In a video clip, actress Erin Krakow (Elizabeth Thornton) asked fans for their help.

The WCTH actor was at a FanExpo science fiction convention when he took a nasty fall. However, there would be far worse injuries than anyone initially thought. The 71-year-old actor went to bed that night not knowing that he had a serious brain bleed. On a GoFundMe page, Michael’s wife, Susan Hogan wrote,

“He went to bed that night not realizing that the impact had caused a massive brain bleed. He was unable to be woken the next morning and was taken to Vancouver General Hospital and emergency surgery performed. It took 57 staples to close the part of his skull they had to remove in order to reach the damage.”

When Calls The Heart News – WCTH: Medical Update On Actor

The injury left Michael completely paralyzed on the left side of his body. He also has memory loss, cognitive impairment, and cannot swallow. Even though there have been some improvements, he still has a long road to recovery. Since this happened during the COVID-19 pandemic, that affects how Susan can visit her husband. Shari Ulrich, the Hogans’ friend, and neighbor explained,

“Susan is allowed limited supervised visits — socially distanced, no contact, no touching — not even a smile can be exchanged given the mandatory face masks. For someone with a brain injury, that face, that smile, that contact with a family member is critical grounding for them. To be denied that is torturous.”

When Calls the Heart star Erin Krakow went to her Instagram account to ask fans for help. She explained,

Krakow went on to say that all of this happening during a pandemic has made this excruciatingly difficult for Michael’s family. There is also the financial burden that his loved ones are faced with. She asked if anyone was able to help contribute anything, to go to Michael’s GoFundMe page.
