Elizabeth returns after a month away with little Jack. They were visiting family. Lucas is in town to greet her. They kiss. He tells her how much he missed her. He walks them home. On their way, they see a man in a hot air balloon.

The next morning, Lucas visits. They plan to meet for dinner. In town, Rosemary meets with the balloonist to do a human interest piece. Lee stops by. He is hoping she will write about the election as he is running for mayor. Meanwhile, Faith feels overwhelmed about running the infirmary while Carson is gone. Bill tells Nathan he will cover for him as he plans to leave town to see Ally at her grandparents. Bill talks of change on the horizon with the mayoral race. Elizabeth arrives at school to find all of her students waiting. They yell welcome back.

Outside the school, Elizabeth and the students see the balloonist. The kids run to see the balloon while Rosemary and Elizabeth catch up. Rosemary shares that she and Lee have both found their calling. Meanwhile, Henry meets Lucas’ new investor Jerome and is not happy. The two have bad history.

Lee visits Rosemary at her office. She tells him he is making great headway with his campaign. His numbers look promising. In town, Elizabeth runs into Nathan. They make awkward small talk until Nathan asks if Lucas can teach him how to drive. He needs to for his job. Elizabeth offers to teach him. He is hesitant but accepts her offer. Someone on horseback comes flying into town. The person ducks behind some houses and changes her clothes. Nathan looks for the person. She comes out by Elizabeth’s and rides off. Nathan doesn’t realize she is who he is looking for.

At the saloon, Faith defends her and Carson’s decision to be apart. Mike comes to the table. Someone painted mustaches on his mayoral posters. Clara comforts him. She is also stressed Henry is upset over Jerome who she brought to town. Meanwhile, Lucas tends to Jerome leaving Elizabeth alone at the table. Nathan stops by and makes small talk before Elizabeth asks the Canfields to eat dinner with her. Just as Nathan finds the lady who road fast into town, he is pulled away to stop a fight better Jerome and Henry. Jerome wants to press charges after Henry hits him.

The woman who rode into town shows up to meet Need. He is surprised. He hired her husband. She assures him she is an experienced educated pharmacist. Ned and Florence do not know what to do. Meanwhile, Mrs. Canfield brings Henry breakfast at the jail. Nathan and Lucas exchange brief words. Nathan didn’t accept Lucas to help break up the fight the night before.

Ned and Florence open their pharmacy and ice cream stand. Mary Sue asks Faith to vouch for her and get her the pharmacy job. She doesn’t want Faith to call her husband Jeff. Elizabeth overhears this conversation as the town celebrates around them. After she runs into the Canfield’s daughter who shares her brother Cooper has been getting into some trouble. Just then, Cooper’s dad sends him home to finish his chores.

Rosemary breaks the news to Lee that he is now behind in the polls. She tells him he needs to have faith. He can do it. Lucas takes Elizabeth for a balloon ride. She is nervous but he comforts her. He shares that he is going to sell his shares in the oil business. He will have more time. They kiss. In town, Nathan is struck by a car on his horse.
