Nathan stops by the school to tell Elizabeth that he is headed out of town to be a witness in a trial. Allie will be going home with Opal. After he leaves the school steps he sees Lucas coming to visit Elizabeth and is annoyed. Lucas asked Elizabeth to be his guest into the city tomorrow night to hear a reading of Virginia Woolf. Elizabeth appears nervous and unsure, telling him she’ll have to think about it.
Clara and Jesse arrive in town, coming home from their honeymoon. They are greeted by Rosemary and Lee as well as Carson and Bill. Elizabeth arrives minutes later. Her and Rosemary chat. She tells Rosemary about Lucas‘s invitation to the city. Rosemary office to take little Jack so that Elizabeth can go. Rosemary talks her into going.
After talking money, Lucas asks Henry to borrow his car to go into the city. Meanwhile, Jesse carries Clara over the threshold of their home. Henry arrives at Carson’s office. He has indigestion. He would like something for it but Carson needs to examine him first.
Elizabeth arrives at the salon so that she can tell Lucas that she will be attending the reading with him. She tells him that if this is a date she’s uncomfortable about that. He tells her it can be whatever she wants. On her way home, Elizabeth runs into Bill. He notices how happy she seems.
Carson tells Henry that he will give him something for indigestion but he also thinks that he should take time away from work. Jess, he brings his things to move in with Clara. He hardly has anything, she is a bit surprised. It looks as if he isn’t telling her something.
Well taking Mike’s order at the saloon, Lucas discovers that he no longer does the books for Henry and Lucas‘s business. This makes Lucas very nervous after noticing Henry’s hesitation and talking about the business the other day.
Elizabeth tells Rosemary that she’s really nervous about going and leaving Little Jack. Rosemary comforts her and also tells her she’ll let her borrow something to go into the city.
The next day, Elizabeth says goodbye to Little Jack, Rosemary and Lee. She is nervous to go. Meanwhile, Clara comes out of the Mercantile and sees Jesse giving away some of his belongings to a man with a truck.
Elizabeth and Lucas take off to head for the city. Lee wants to know who is going to tell Nathan. Allie sees Elizabeth and Lucas leave. In town, Lee and Rosemary run into Nathan who questions why they have little Jack. They stumble to tell him the reason why. Everyone else in town is acting just as funny.
Allie asks Nathan at home if she knew something that would bother someone should she still tell them? He looks confused as he tries to answer. Lucas and Elizabeth stop for a bite to eat before checking into their hotel, into separate rooms.
In town, Jesse runs into Bill. The two talks about him moving into Claire’s. Jesse explained that he didn’t move much into Claire’s because he didn’t wanna ruin her nice home. Lee and Rosemary run into an incident when they lose little Jack stuffed animal and he won’t stop crying. Lee heads into town to look around to see if they left it somewhere.
Bill comes to see Nathan check on him. He is furiously chopping wood and denies being upset at all about Elizabeth and Lucas. Bill tells him it’s just a reading. Bill joins in on chopping wood and tries to make small talk. Nathan knows what he’s trying to do but humors him.
Elizabeth comes down from her hotel room dressed in her best attire to meet Lucas for the reading. He tells her she looks beautiful. Back at home, Rosemary tries her best to get Little Jack to eat. He isn’t budging. Lee brings home a new collection of stuffed animals and Little Jack doesn’t like that either.
After the reading, a very happy Elizabeth and Lucas head to dinner. Elizabeth goes on and on about the book. Lucas admits that he just read the first chapter the night before. Elizabeth understands now that he just bought the tickets and did this all for her.
Clara comes to tell Bill that Jesse is acting very strange especially with his things. Bill explains to her that maybe Jesse is nervous and has put her up on a pedestal. He doesn’t want to move his things in because he thinks he’ll ruin everything.
At dinner, Lucas confesses to Elizabeth that he came to Hope Valley after moving around as a child. He is looking for stability and would love to start a family. He also shares that he knows the right woman for him and that he will be patiently waiting.
Rosemary finally gets a little Jack to bed. She heads down the stairs and she and Lee are thrilled. He shares how he’s exhausted and starving. She tells him not to cook it’s way too loud. Just a creek of the kitchen cabinet sends little Jack crying.
Clara tries to confront Jesse about his things. He brushes it off. The next morning Clara tracks down Jesse’s friend who he gave all of his things to. Lee and Rosemary visit Carson with little Jack. They noticed that he is calm and happy there listening to the typewriter, it reminds him of Elizabeth.
Nathan notices after coming back from fishing that Lucas is dropping Elizabeth off. Back at Lee in Rosemarys, Lee continues to type to keep baby Jack calm. Elizabeth arrives and they tell her he was a dream. Elizabeth tells Rosemary off to the side that everything was perfect.
Clara’s surprise is Jesse with all of his things. Rosemary notices how quiet it is without the baby, Lee notices too. Elizabeth runs into Nathan and Allie in town. Things are awkward.
