In tonight’s WCTH episode, Jed came forward. He admitted to Bill and Rosemary that he’s the one that bought the hazelnuts with the gold coin.

He had no idea the coin was stolen and nor was his involved with the Garrison Gang. Jed won the coin in a poker game.

Not an official poker gang. Jed kept getting kicked out of those. He was something of a card shark. He counts cards and the saloons hate that he kept winning. Jed started going to underground poker games because those are the only ones that allow him to play.

Jed won the coin in a match. He didn’t know it was stolen. He didn’t know it was valuable. He just saw it as a coin. Jed told Bill and Rosemary everything.

Rosemary even tested Jed about it, but Jed truly didn’t know anything about the coin or its connection to the Great Rocky Mountain Train Robbery.

He said someone by the name of Toddy Davis dropped the coin in the poker game. Rosemary and Bill gave Nathan what they found. They looked into this “Toddy Davis”. They couldn’t find anyone by that name.

The investigators figured that was his cover at these underground games. He was a probably a Garrison. It was theorized that the Garrison Gang was behind the train robbery and so the name didn’t fool anyone.

Bill and Rosemary knew that someone had to go to the next game. Rosemary thought it should be her because of her acting skills.

Bill thought it should be him because these games can be dangerous. Nathan shocked them both when he mentioned it should be him. Nathan was a great investigator. He just wasn’t someone that can pass as a high-stakes gambler.

Nathan was a little too much of a boy scout. He even walks like a cop. No one thought he would fit at an underground poker game.

Rosemary said the only way he’d pass was if she fixed him up. She started looking for clothes. She was doing her best to dingy him up when Elizabeth took her class in a new direction.

Elizabeth enjoyed taking the class out into the mountains. They learned so much by getting in touch with nature and Elizabeth wanted to capitalize that. She put together a plan for project-based learning. The kids were really excited about it.

Elizabeth was putting together a path forward when someone reminded her of her past. Fiona Miller was back in town and she wasn’t alone.

She spotted someone stranded on the side of the road. The stranger was Ava Riella. She claimed to be an heiress. She said she was from the United States.

Baltimore to be specific. She read Elizabeth’s biography and became inspired. She now wants to be a teacher just like Elizabeth. Her things were stolen in the same way it happened to Elizabeth’s. She was also an heiress like Elizabeth.

The difference was that Ava’s parents were overseas. It would take them days if not weeks to wire her some money. Until then, the kind people of Hope Valley were offering to assist her while she’s there. They paid for her food. They paid for her room at the hotel.

Ava wasn’t skimping either. She has quite the appetite. She especially enjoys steak with all the trimmings. Fiona thought she was being kind by introducing Ava to the great people of Hope Valley and that might have been a mistake.

Fiona was usually quick on the uptake. Only she’s seemed bogged down by life lately. Fiona’s work wasn’t as fulfilling as it used to be. She had this one fella who asked her to marry him several times and she’s finally considering saying yes just because she felt like her life needed a change. Fiona told her friends all about it.

They wanted to be happy for her and they couldn’t. They knew she was settling. She didn’t really love that man. She just wanted to get married because she felt like life was passing her by and she didn’t want to miss it.

Ava in the meantime joined Elizabeth for one of her lessons. She wasn’t good with kids. Or interested in teaching them. She made the critical error of waking into poison oak on one of Elizabeth’s project-based lessons and she had to be escorted to the doctor’s office.

Ava wasn’t prepared for life on the frontier. She also has an admirer. Wyatt has been following her around like a lost puppy. Elizabeth noticed his crush on Ava. She tried to talk to him about it and Wyatt wasn’t interested in confiding in his old teacher. He also didn’t want to talk about Allie.

They both knew the conversation was going to be about Allie. Allie has this massive crush on him. He knew about it. Elizabeth knew about it. Nathan probably knew about it as well.

They all knew Allie likes Wyatt and that he felt nothing for her. He may like her as a person, but he saw her as a kid. Elizabeth tried to warn Allie about that and Allie thought she was badmouthing Wyatt.

She claimed that her father was trying to turn them against Wyatt. The teenager refused to hear a word against Wyatt.

Elizabeth talked to Rosemary about Allie. Rosemary could see that Allie needed a mother if not mother-figure. She reminded Elizabeth to take her cues from Allie.

Allie did eventually come around to talking to Elizabeth. She did so after she asked Wyatt out. She asked him to go on a picnic with her and he promptly told her that she wasn’t his “speed”.

Allie was so heartbroken. She needed Elizabeth’s love and someone needed to do something about Ava. Ava bought everyone a round of drinks with money she doesn’t have. She was later asked about taking on work and she agreed to work at the saloon in return for all the hospitality they’ve offered her.

The decision to hire Ava went through Mike. Lee was out in the forest with Lucas. Joseph asked them both to meet him there and then he abandoned them together.

It forced the two to talk. They’ve now buried the hatchet. It doesn’t mean they agree about the National Park. It just meant they remembered they were friends first.

Elizabeth later helped Allie through her first heartbreak and Nathan missed it. His undercover work as a gambler was paying off. He was getting to know the seedy crowd of the underground poker games. And maybe he’ll find out where the coin came from.

THE END!
