On tonight’s WCTH episode, Rosemary wanted to lighten her load. She wished to focus on directing the play rather than acting in it. She and Elizabeth talked about it. They both knew that Ava was the best fit to replace Rosemary, but Rosemary just couldn’t let go.
Even if she knew she was running ragged. She still wanted to hold onto the limelight as long as possible. She also didn’t care for Ava. Elizabeth tried to tell Rosemary that it was time to let go and funnily enough she had her own moment when she dug her heels in. Elizabeth did a “Daily Dialogue” with a school administrator.
Elizabeth talked about her new curriculum. The changes she saw in her students. She was quite proud of them and Eileen Bennet popped that bubble. The woman claimed Elizabeth was being naïve. She threw in the word “fuzzy” as well.
Eileen told Elizabeth that their jobs weren’t to inspire students. It was to help them survive the real world. Elizabeth tried to mention the great work that Allie was doing only Eileen didn’t think one student should be the reason for a curriculum change. The only thing that could convince Eileen that Elizabeth’s plan was a good thing was test scores.
If test scores went up, Elizabeth’s new form of teaching might be considered for other schools. Nothing will happen until then and so Eileen deriding the curriculum was just mean-spirited. Elizabeth was livid after that interview.
She got all riled up and Nathan helped her calm down. He reminded her that she does great work. It didn’t matter that she was teaching out of a small school or a big school. She helped her students to be the best they could be. Allie was already showing how much she learned by speaking before the ranchers.
Allie spoke before the Cattleman’s association. The ranchers and the government were arguing back and forth over a planned national park. There was this one rancher that was derailing everything. His name was AJ McGinty.
McGinty didn’t want to hear out the kids or the Governor. He was rude. He was dismissive. He essentially said that the park will never be built. He also wore some distinctive boots. Allie recognized those boots. She knew that McGinty was deliberating blocking access to the other pasture.
Allie would have accused McGinty to his face only Oliver stopped her. They didn’t have concrete proof. The boots being distinctive weren’t enough and so the two of them took some advice from Henry Gowen. He told them that McGinty was the type of villain that wasn’t as smart as he thought he was.
He was bound to misstep. It was up to Allie and Oliver to be there when it happens. Allie didn’t like the waiting part, but she did come out to defend Elizabeth. She later told Elizabeth that she’s never loved school more than when she moved the classroom outside.
Everyone agreed with her. Elizabeth was a great teacher. She wasn’t provincial at all and she could teach everyone what they need to know. The one thing she couldn’t do was convince Rosemary to let go. Rosemary had to learn to do that on her own.
Rosemary’s radio program was bought out by Roland Rockwell. He thought her “Daily Dialogues” were boring. They were losing out to an animal program and so Rosemary came up with an idea. She suggested they turn their local play into a radio program.
The play/program was planned in the next three days. The sudden change wasn’t helping anyone. It also happened during flu season. Mike was the first to struggle with a sore throat. He went to the hot springs to feel better. Bill and Lee went with him.
They weren’t feeling that well either. They all caught a case of laryngitis from each other and there goes fifty percent of the cast.. The men of the play were out. Rosemary started to panic and that’s when her friends stepped up. They agreed to host an all-female production of “The Importance of Being Ernest”.
Rosemary also finally asked Ava to be a part of the play. They all had fun together. They put on a great show. It even sparked a new fad to put on plays over the radio waves. The whole town loved it. The one person that didn’t seem too happy was Edie Martell.
She finally came clean with Lucas about why they couldn’t go against McGinty. McGinty agreed to give the other ranchers a loan when the pasture got washed out. They were able to rebuild. They just couldn’t afford the interest rates on the initial loan and so now most of their ranches were owed by a loan shark.
Its why they couldn’t go against him during the cattleman association. Edie told Lucas everything. It was now up to them to figure out how to take down McGinty. Rockwell meanwhile offered Rosemary and Fiona a chance to start up a new radio station. In a different city.
Rosemary couldn’t leave Hope Valley, but Fiona could. Fiona accepted a marriage proposal from someone she didn’t love and she was looking for a sign to end things. This was that sign. Fiona agreed to take “Daily Dialogue” on the road. And maybe one day she will find the one.
Elizabeth has also heard from other schools. They all loved her idea. They were going to implement it no matter what Eileen said and so Elizabeth did influence others to do good. She also read the letters for another show on the radio.
THE END!
