Tonight’s episode begins with Elizabeth who says that after the sale of the oil company and being cleared of criminal wrongdoing, she never would have imagined Lucas would become discouraged and withdrawn. But maybe it is the weather, it has been so dismal, but she has never seen the man she loves to look so unhappy.
Elizabeth is out for a walk when she bumps into Rosemary and they talk about the colors of the season. Rosemary says that she no longer feels nauseous, so it is probably not that she was pregnant. And thankfully, she and Lee have accepted the life they have. She thanks Elizabeth because her life wouldn’t be what it is without her.
Billy is on horseback and looks in pain, he is going to meet a superior court judge who will help to keep the mine from reopening. Meanwhile, Florence sees a sign in town about the mine reopening and gets upset. She sees Luca and says that this is not just Henry’s fault as she is ripping off the signs.
Luca is with Henry on the street when the sign almost falls on Henry’s head.
Nathan goes to the pharmacy to see Mei and Faith is there. They talk about Mei and Nathan says that he got a letter from her but she is a mystery. Ned walks in with his latest innovation.
Lee is in his office and can’t believe how things are so organized. Arthur comes in and wants to speak to him. He says he knows that he and Mr. Smith are not welcome in town. He has a business opportunity that he would like to discuss with him.
Elizabeth finds Lucas staring at a dart in the wall that Tom Trevoy after he signed the deed to the saloon to Luca. And with that, Tom was gone. She asks him if he wants to discuss what has been bothering him lately. Whatever he needs, she hopes he gets it. He decides to go for a ride while she has her salon day with Rosemary.
Florence goes to see Ned, she tells him that she misses him. He tells her that he misses her too and would love to take a walk.
At the oil rigs, Arthur tells Fiona that they got off on the wrong foot, and he would like to take her to dinner. Fiona is wondering if she judged him wrong.
Rosemary and Elizabeth are having their spa day, Elizabeth says that on her birthday Lucas didn’t give her a present. She was hoping for an engagement ring and maybe he is changing his mind about them. Rosemary tells her to speak to Lucas, it is better to get it out in the open.
Nathan is getting a checkup with Dr. Faith Carter he says he is staring into space and has trouble sleeping, so she rights him a prescription.
Joseph is happy to have his wife Minnie back, she gives him a note from her daddy and he doesn’t look pleased after reading it.
Rosemary invites Elizabeth over to her house to get ready to cheer her up.
At the mine, more safety issues arise and Henry is furious, he wants no more lost lives. Henry is at the saloon, he is upset. Jerome bribes Colin, the mining expert, to say that the mines are safe and Henry confronts him.
Fiona says yes to Aurthur to have dinner with him. Rosemary and Lee walk-in for dinner as well. Rosemary runs over to Elizabeth who is hiding in a corner. Lucas walks over and is thrilled to see her. The two are dressed in red dressed and look very similar.
Fiona puts on her ballet slippers to relax and is surprised but what she can do. Molly, Fiona, and Faith come over to support her, they need to be there for one another.
Nathan tells Elizabeth that he enjoyed his ride, and he would like her to ride to where he went today. He takes about living somewhere remote and the next she is still bothered by it. He reassures her though that he has a home here and doesn’t want to leave. She tells him about her birthday and she thought he would propose but thought he changed his mind. He goes to his desk, he has the ring there, he tells her happy belated birthday and gives her the box. Inside, there are earrings. He apologizes if he led her to believe that he would propose. He tells her he loves and she says it in return.
Arthur visits Lee at the newspaper office and says they are after him. He would have his choice of living in NY, Chicago, or Los Angeles, they are impressed with his opinions. Lee is surprised, he credits Rosemary’s hard work for the success of the paper. Lee says he needs time. Arthur says he is leaving tomorrow, but he always knows where to find him.
Henry is at the mine and sets off an explosion that everyone in town can hear.
Henry is with Aurthur, Fiona, and Bill, he tells them that he used every stick of dynamite that he could find. Bill tells Henry to lay low for a few days to avoid trouble. Since the steel foundry workers are on strike too, the reopening of the coal mine is suspended for the time being. Bill says he can’t condone what he did, but thank you.
Arthur leaves town with Jerome. Mike is back in town and Fiona is thrilled.
Elizabeth is looking for Lucas, he gave Gustave a letter for her, and he went out of town by horse for an indefinite period.
