Hallmark Channel When Calls The Heart spoilers and updates reveal alumni Brooke Shields dishes the truth about her exit from the popular show.
The iconic actress made her appearance on When Calls the Heart in 2016, while she was under contract with Hallmark Media—but the demanding schedule caused her to leave.
Brooke Shields Reveals Her Motives For Leaving In A Book
Brooke Shields has a remarkable background-she has been on popular shows like Lipstick Jungle and Suddenly Susan, and she also had a role in When Calls the Heart.
However, she surprised fans when she suddenly left the Hallmark Channel; Shields reveals all in her new book, Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed To Get Old. In it, she discusses aging, body shaming, and sexual assault, along with stories from her acting career.
She has been part of many Hallmark Media projects, including WCTH and Flower Shop Mysteries- Shields explained why she left the network so unexpectedly. Although she signed a deal for 16 movies with the Hallmark Channel, she only appeared in three of them.
Shields Explains She Had To Renegotiate
“I had only finished three when I realized I needed to renegotiate,” Shields shares in her book, according to Soaps.com; “I was brought on board, I was told, to help transform the network. They wanted me to be humorous and add more comedy to their shows, but as we filmed each of the Flower Shop Mysteries —all the humor had disappeared.”
In the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries series, Shields portrayed Abby Knight, a former lawyer who ran a flower shop. In 2016, she starred in three films: Flower Shop Mystery: Dearly Depotted, Flower Shop Mystery: Snipped in the Bud, and Mum’s the Word: A Flower Shop Mystery.
WCTH Fans Are Familiar With Shields’ Role In The Show
Fans know Shields from her role in WCTH, where she played Charlotte Thornton, the mother of Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing) and Tom Thornton (Max Lloyd-Jones).
Charlotte was also the ex-mother-in-law of Elizabeth Thornton (Erin Krakow). Shields made an appearance in Season 3 of the popular series in 2016.
Even after leaving, the Blue Lagoon actress holds no grudges against the network. She stated, “It’s not for everyone, and there’s nothing wrong with the Hallmark Channel — it has a large fan base — but it wasn’t the path I envisioned for my career.”
She Didn’t Expect Such A Heavy Filming Load
She mentioned that she didn’t anticipate filming so many movies and TV shows in a single year. Ultimately, it simply wasn’t the right match for her; Shields aimed to explore “other opportunities” during that period.
Her intention was to dedicate more time to her family-while she takes pride in being a diligent worker, Shields found the frantic filming schedule unappealing. That’s when she faced the tough choice to leave the network.
“I definitely caught some people off guard, and in many ways, I surprised myself; I certainly wouldn’t have made that decision in my 20s,” Shields remarked.
